Thanks to Beachbum Berry Remixed, I have been introduced to the Marlin, a cocktail named for the blue fish because it is made with blue-dyed curaçao liqueur. Blue drinks are generally insipid or over-sweet; the Marlin is neither, and quite delicious. I decided I needed some variety this evening, though, and mixed a variation:
  • 1/2 oz blue curaçao (substitute Cointreau with a drop of blue food coloring)
  • 1/2 oz maraschino
  • 1/2 oz orgeat syrup
  • 1 oz lime juice
  • 2 oz tequila blanco (half blanco and half reposado or añejo would also work)
Shake all ingredients with plenty of ice and pour unstrained into a rocks glass.

The Marlin uses two different kinds of rum and half lemon/half lime; by using tequila and all lime juice, my variant gives the modifying flavors a brighter, slightly harsher base to play off, which works very well. It needs an appropriate garnish and title, probably both somehow related to Mexico, and suggestions will be considered. :)
