Looks like I'm due for an update.
Rominger's Rules for Students
• The more general the title of a course, the less you will learn from it.
• The more specific a title is, the less you will be able to apply it later.
I have a class called "Perspectives on Inquiry." Hmm....
Work could be worse, but it also could be much better (maybe they'll get around to paying me sometime soon...). I'm going to look over how much I spend in a week and see if the money I'm supposed to be getting from work is all that important.
Last weekend's football game against Indianapolis was lots of fun. MTU's team entered while the band played Also Sprach Zarathustra . After pregame we went back to our bleachers (behind one of the endzones), happy that the band had stolen a section of bleachers from the visiting side Thursday night. During the game, the band took every opportunity to make fun of somebody. The tenor sax section leader had a big piece of poster board that said, "Run it up the middle," and he often held it up and yelled, "Secret play!" Some of the chants can be found on the web site (google: dawgs "mtu.edu"), but I'll put my favorite one here:
e^x dx dy e^x dx
sec cos tan sin 3.14159
pi pi radical mu
beat 'em beat 'em MTU!
At halftime, the band entered the field by playing red light/green light. At the end of halftime, the band came back to the bleachers and found the referees taking a break there. So, not having an opposing team on hand to taunt, we surrounded and taunted the refs. After the only touchdown Indianapolis scored, they went for the extra point. The bones (on one end of the bleachers) yelled "kick it over here!" The kick went up, and missed the uprights (it even went to the bones' side). In the end, the score was MTU 24 (3 touchdowns and a field goal), Indianapolis 6.
Now it's time for me to go to class, so I'll post more later.
edit (later posting) --
Ok, time to write more.
The homework for tomorrow is done. So is the homework for Friday.
Classes have actually been somewhat interesting (even "Perspectives on Inquiry"), so the homework hasn't been as painful as it could be. The texts for French are supposed to actually get easier to understand as the semester goes on (because they'll be more and more recent), and we've just finished the oldest one (which I handled senior year). French isn't actually meeting tomorrow, so I'll get some time to rest before pep band rehearsal. Psychology isn't too much work, and it's a lot of in-class lecture, so that shouldn't be too bad. As for CS classes, only one (data structures) gives programming assignments, and a lot of it is stuff I've had before. Discrete structures is a math class (seems to be mostly formal logic/proof) with lots of stuff I've taught myself. Next semester's classes (and hopefully this semester's classes) should have some new stuff coming though.
Greg is heading back for homecoming, and I'm staying here, but because of the travel time, you're more likely to be able to talk to me. Hopefully, I'll have enough time to work really far ahead in homework, and then I can actually sleep during the week.
The weather is getting much nicer now (we had days with highs of around 90°), so the temperature in the buildings is tolerable again (for a while they had the hot air going when it was warm out). Looks like it's expected to warm up a bit for the weekend, which won't be all that bad, but it's nice to be down below 85° again.
I've got some stuff to do this weekend. Grocery shopping (out of milk) will have to be done on foot, and I have to wash the bed sheets (and get out all the dead bugs that got there during the hot weather). Then, of course, there's homework that'll have to get done, but aside from that, I should have time to relax this weekend.
