Well, orientation week is over, so they're done talking at me about stuff I already knew. I've made a couple trips into "downtown" Houghton, but (oddly enough) I haven't gone to Cyberia yet. I do, however, have my textbooks for this semester, which is nice to have ready before class starts.
We had an Honors Institute meeting yesterday; we're still trying to figure out what we are. We've determined that we will each do projects on our own that build off of something we do in class. We get to pick the class and come up with the project. One possibility that was established at the meeting was finding a sponsor to send you to a conference related to your major. I might try something based off of data structures and/or discrete structures this semester. Later on, I might try a project based on something that came up during co-op.
Pep band camp was yesterday afternoon. Those people are crazy. The band is nationally recognized in Division I hockey (unlike our team...), and has been banned from several stadiums for taking away the home field advantage. Despite being banned, part of the band is going -- just not in uniform and without instruments. Hopefully they'll have stories when they get back. The band is surprisingly autonomous. They generally decide what to play/yell and when. The band director is a suggestion.
Greg and I are planning a trip to L'Anse to pick up archery equipment I ordered. Greg will probably spend quite a while looking around in the store too. This morning, we have another pep band rehearsal (which covers up brunch), so I'm eating breakfast in the room (pop tarts). I still need a shower, and then we have to walk over to the Rozsa Center for rehearsal. Before going into rehearsal, I must buy earplugs. Since I have less than an hour to do all of this, I'm leaving now.
