This morning, fate handed me a big fat honking rose on a gold platter...kinda.
The Richard Dawkins Foundation channel on YouTube posted
a lecture by Carolyn Porco (who is, incidentally, on whom Carl Sagan told Jodie Foster to model her performance in the movie Contact) on science in Hollywood, and how scientists are portrayed.
The more she talked, the more I realized that what she was talking about is, in fact, the basis for
The Adventures of Kanira Baxter: portraying science as fun, and showing scientists in a more positive light, as opposed to the evil German scientist or the socially awkward nerdbag.
I mean, that part of the story is starting now so I can talk about it...Kanira's family is in her universe's equivalent of Starfleet, only with an even stronger focus on science, and Kanira grew up around that sort of thing; don't think for a moment that it didn't affect her, as much as she may appear to deny it.
So I just sorta casually mentioned my comic on this video...and my readership has--*ahem*--quadrupled. Heh. Granted, that's still not VERY many, and it's been less than a day--for all I know, many of these new folks will stop reading after today--but for now...it feels good. :)
