Javascripting. That's it.
I had to do a bit of javascript for my webcomic today, something I'd never done before.

See, it's actually getting to the point where a second chapter has come up. Each chapter--there'z only two so far, but hey...there'll be more!--is punctuated by a "Ship Record", the Kaniraverse equivalent of a 'Captain's Log' entry; I figured, why not have a dropdown menu that'll let you jump from chapter to chapter? Jumping from page to page would be impractical, but why not allow readers to at least hop to the beginning and ending of each part of the story, right?

Now, I'd never done javascript before; it's just never come up. I found a tutorial, though, that taught me most of what I needed to know; it was written for people who were attempting something slightly different from what I was going for, but I managed to pare it down to the bare essentials for my purposes. I only made one error before I figured it out, too; there was a bit of code that I didn't know was essential which I had left out. No biggie, neh?

Javascript? Way frickin' easy, so far as I can tell; it's rather like BASIC or Pascal, really, with a smidge of HTML in there for good measure. Granted, what I was doing was about as simple as making your name print on the screen repeatedly, but still...

You know...it's amazing how much I love to learn when I'm not in a school environment. School sucks; setting a goal for oneself and then learning how to accomplish it, or finding something interesting and researching it, rocks. From sociological/theological dynamics to programming languages to astrophysics to manipulating language, I seem to really dig learning...when I set the curriculum, pace, and goals. That ain't what school is like, tho, is it? You're always dancing to someone else's tune in school, instead of whatever floats your particular ducky.
I think I like my way better; I have enthusiasm my way.
