Life's been extra crazy the last few weeks. All three kids are in various half day summer programs, plus M is staying with us to take a morning driver's ed class. DH and I are juggling desperately to drop off in the morning and pick up in the middle of the day while still doing justice to our jobs. Grandma G is staying with us, but I was apparently not bright enough to count CARS and realize that having three adult drivers in the house doesn't help when there are only two cars available. One more week of this and we're through, thankfully. I'll plan better next summer.
Work has also been pretty intense. I've had two promotions in six months, and I'm struggling to get up to speed. Leading a team demands a brand new skill set, mostly soft skills that I've ignored my entire professional life. I'm excited about the other team leads I work with though. They are a terrific group with lots of good ideas that I'm glad to part of. We're starting to pull together and believe that we can build a great team regardless of who our official manager is.
It doesn't help that we're in the middle of a messy reorg that's seen our team cycle through six interim managers in nine months. Our newly hired manager (non-interim) starts next Monday. I'm hoping for the best but preparing for the worst.
My latest interim boss has been amazing--I've learned tons from her example of how to deal with assholes and morons. She's unfailingly polite, never ruffles feathers, and gets EXACTLY what we need to get our work done. I'm glad she'll still be around if we need help or advice.
