"Chance encounters are what keep us going." - Haruki Murakami (Kafka on the Shore)

I don't know what got me to do it, but I suddenly had the urge to google up some Murakami quotes. I guess in some small way I wanted to 'chance' upon that story again but a search of 'Murakami quotes' brought be to this one in particular.

I've often loved reading my Murakami just because he lets the mind wander through his stories. Some books you read and you feel like you didn't really get something tangible out of it... with Murakami you get almost the same effect but it really was on purpose. A lot of his stories are so open ended that you seek a sense of closure right after, but that's not really always a bad thing. (trust me)

This one caught my eye in particular because it seems like such an everyday statement. But if you stop and take in the scent from a rose such as this one it floors you.

How real is it?

My answer: Very.

Whenever you go through the cycles of life you tend to fall into trends and routines that are so hard to break free off. Life after that gets a tad dull and ordinary... so ordinary that you feel as if there isn't anything special about anything. Its as if you started watching a full-color film on an IMAX theater and slowly everything on screen transforms into black and white, the once booming sounds become short texts on the bottom.

Then amidst all mundane events happening (or lack thereof) something smacks you right across the face with a flash of color.

Something so unexpected breaks the monotonous flow and adds something unique and wonderful.

I don't know if its ever happened to you, or if anything I just said even made sense. (2AM now Z_Z)

One day you just might have a chance encounter that allows you to have a paradigm shift (hello Jimmy Valentine) and then you'll get it.

:)
