I was wondering what you nice folks here at
environment thought about the issue of global over-population. Some people estimate our population is going to double come 2050, then there are those who say it's unlikely.
Obviously if this were to happen, our planet as a whole would be a mess. We've already done enough damage to our world, imagine having to cater to twice as many of us..
I just want to know what you guys think.
Personally, I think it's a concern. Thanks to how far we've come scientifically, people are overcoming serious disease, more children are being born healthy, there isn't too much keeping our population regulated anymore. We neglect to see it as a problem for humans, yet it's something we try to stabilize in animals, why is that? Because it's our duty as people to procreate?
You think it's hard to convince people to recycle, try telling them they shouldn't have more than one or two kids.
I just can't imagine having 11 billion people stuck on this rock. Where would we keep them all? More forests would be cleared to make room for everyone. More pollution would be pumped into our air, water and earth.. Basically we'd be leading to the demise of our planet and ourselves.
I understand that some people like having big families, but how many children are out there in the world that already need homes? Sure, have one or two kids of your own to "replace" yourself in the world, but after that, what's wrong with taking in a child that needs a better life, instead of just creating another person to walk the earth? People take in needy animals all the time, what about the needy kids?
Yeah, I guess this kind of turned into a bit of a rant, but sometimes I feel alone with this thought. Currently, I don't want any kids, but if I do in the future, I'm hoping to adopt from a third world country..
So, what are your thoughts?
