Yikes. My city is getting scarier by the moment.

Just put 'coronavirus my city' into google and wow.

As of April 9- Confirmed cases (that is people who managed SOMEHOW to get the test & have the results) * was 700-- 62 of them newly confirmed as of April 8th.

The mayor has really not got a handle on this-- just got around to suggesting that maybe people ought not to socialize at coffee shops.

Lots of people are out of work, as you can expect. The phone and online methods of applying for unemployment are so swamped people can't get through. So they opened up some sites- libraries etc. to pass out the paperwork in PERSON. Hundreds of people showed up. Crowding, pushing and shoving in a solid mass. Many didn't have any face covering at all. And of the ones who did, a lot of them had it just over their mouths. 'Let's spread the virus as fast as we can.'

A large proportion of the population are elderly (close to 50,000) many of them living in various nursing homes, assisted living, apartments managed by the housing authority etc. A lot of fragile people, who can't stay totally isolated- the workers who come in to bathe and help feed them only started wearing gloves and masks a week ago. Looking forward, a lot of them will wind up needing intensive care. The hospitals won't be able to handle the numbers.

*one testing site used 'Bacterial' medium, instead of 'Viral' medium, so they had to call for retesting all the people who'd managed to make the very specific requirements to get tested in the first place- either a first responder, or over 65, with symptoms, verified by a doctor, and then managed to get through on the phone to make an appointment.

Edited to add this from the article about unemployment lines:Applicants who had access to the Internet were dealing with error messages and hours of waiting on the phone while calling a helpline that was of no help. Jessica Tellez said she was at the library to pick up forms for all of the members of her family who need them.

“My dad is old. He can’t come out ... Everybody out here is risking their lives to get these applications. It’s very hard to do it online because everybody is applying online and the website is crashing,” Tellez said, adding she waited for about three hours.

I've been staying in my home cave since March 17th. Shall be here as long as the cat litter holds out...
