Anxiety and pictures...

This is a short post for the very reason I'm posting about: I continue to be nervous about how well I'm doing in grad school. I feel like I'm not working hard enough and/or that I'm not smart enough to get where I want to. So I can't spend much time bashing out LJ posts, since I have to read about pion chiral perturbation theory and babysit a supercomputer and write a proto-paper and learn LaTeX and grade papers and think about how I'm going to teach today's lab and think about Sybil's practice oral tonight and work on my own results and worry about Shufang's homework. I hope that, in the end, I make it, and that it was worth it.

But I got to go hiking yesterday with zimfusion and her boyfriend -- we did the 5.5 mile loop from the Madera Canyon/Mt. Wrightson trailhead up to Josephine Saddle, up via Super Trail and down via Old Baldy, with a little detour off to a nice creek in the woods where butterflies and whatnot hang out.

Most of the pictures weren't up to standard, but here are a few that were:

Two water striders making more water striders. There was a whole flotilla of them, most of them in the process of mating:

This fellow was occupied with squawking at some annoying people and their dog, down near the trailhead, and didn't mind me and my camera:

Do the black feathers look too bright on this picture? I think my monitor is set too dark now.

That's all for now until I get unburied by work!
