* Pulling ridiculously long working days again. This is good.
* It's my birthday on the 10th. I'll be a quarter-century old but, oddly enough, the idea is beginning to appeal to me. I haven't 'celebrated' my birthday for what, two or three years now? Last year I cancelled it, and replaced it with 'ADSL installation day' (which, coincidentally, was on the same day), and I can't find anything (well, anything other than ex-gf-angst) in this LJ for the years before it, which goes back to 2004. The old journal reveals only that I was 'busy doing l33t stuff with LCD panels' on my 21st.
* Think it might be fun to celebrate it this year (even if 'celebrate' means, in this context, going to Steeves and drinking his gooseberry rum again :D ).
* Am downloading a boatload of breakcore music. This 'gabba' thing is becoming something of an interest now, which is cool. I've always been interested in [mainly metal] music, but never really needed to go ferret out 'the good stuff' before - I'd always be perfectly happy with the stuff I heard in pubs/clubs. Now I find myself looking at the websites of music labels. That can't be good! Incoming music geekery! :D
* Why the hell would anyone rip/distribute a track of the genre 'glitchcore' in FLAC format?!
* My design doesn't meet timing.
* Got my [very old] Cisco 7000 router set up yesterday (and by 'set up', I mean 'plugged in'). It was comforting how much of the old CCNA stuff I actually remembered (Initial configuration dialog?! naaah, I'll just hit config mode, drop to the interface, no-shutdown..). Promptly did a memory dump of what I think is the IOS image in RAM. It's really nice to look through code in IDA that's so different to anything I had before - it's 68k, so you get cracked-out RISC stuff (and the fact that it has an opcode named bra (bolded so people are fooled in to reading this paragraph) amuses me greatly). It's not just that though, it has resources embedded inside lumps of code, and other stuff like that. It's also (obviously) engineered for reliability (static canaries sitting in the heap, etc) and doesn't use the stack for variable storage much (although if you're on 68k, you've got enough regs that you don't have to, I guess).
* Revesing stuff is fun.
* Tired, but then, I always am at the moment.
* Mum's coming to Bradford for the day, on my birthday. I think I might badger her in to taking me to tesco (yay for buying big things) and/or B&Q (my wood supply is low). Still haven't found anything m4d l33t for her to buy me for Christmas/Birthday, but I'm not really that bothered by this. I'd much rather just chill in the pub with a handful of Special People than get 'stuff'.
* Do not be fooled by the last entry - I'm still a pennygrabbing git :D
* AES is a pain in the ass to pipeline properly, because you need an sbox for each byte.
* Apparently Rock Band features songs by Tull (!!), Tool, Motorhead, all the good names - and they're the real versions, this time, too. I'd probably buy it if the 'MUST PLAY GUITAR HERO' hadn't worn off about, ooh, 3 years ago.
* I have an odd sensation that I'm living in a parallel universise today, ever since I got up. I keep thinking I'm going to walk in to the kitchen and find an ex-gf there, still with me.
* I really fancy a really good night out, y'know? I'd get everyone to go to Rockworld for my birthday, but I think I'd be the only one that enjoyed it if I did.
* That reminds me; I have an awesome picture on my camera of Steeeve reading a book on haxx0ring while at the uni rock night, by the light of his phone's backlight.
* To give you some idea of scale, here, I started writing this post around two hours ago.
* My design meets timing now. Doesn't work, though. I'm going through it, removing all the kludges I did yesterday. Oops.
birthday,
hax,
