Who: Lily, OPEN Where: The mansion's staircase and hall. When: Victorian flashback event Rating: PG (so far) Summary: Lily believes the event is a dream and is going with it Story: ( ( All that we see or seem, is just a dream within a dream. )
James had been wandering about the mansion, his elegant dress robes swishing about as he walked. They were black, with a hazel trim that brought out his eyes, and it was the sort of thing his parents would have made him wear to important functions, and he always hated things like that.
Once he had received that ball invitation, he had taken off on his own to look for Lily. Lately, he had felt somewhat discouraged that Lily had returned as the Lily who had been best friends with Snape. He would be more careful the second time around, that was certain. They had become so close, and then it was taken away. It was driving him absolutely mad. Something in the back of his mind seemed to be tugging at him though, and reminding him just how badly he wanted to be with her. He wanted them to be together. He wanted to marry her and have a little boy who would save the world, and he wanted them to miraculously live through it all so they would grow old together. He had never forgotten, but it was so vivid in his mind now

"Mister Potter." That was entirely more formal than she would have expected, the surprise of it showed on her face. As he neared she bent slightly, dipping her head and bending at the knee in greeting to him, also entirely odd to her. This dream was strange, but it reminded her of some of the older movies she had seen on telly late nights.
lily took a step forward, her gloved hand reaching out flatly to let Potter take it when he crossed to her. "I trust you are well today?" It was not what she'd wanted to ask, but it seemed the pleasantries would not be allowed to fall silent
James bowed in reply to her curtsy, though the gesture seemed to surprise him just a little as well. When he was given her hand, however, he wasted no time in politely kissing it before standing straight again.
" I'm quite well, Miss Evans," he said, smiling. " I hope that you are as well?"
James thought it was kind of strange, in all honesty. He certainly didn't sound like himself when he was speaking this way, but Lily, this younger Lily, was not typically so polite with him either. He decided that he wouldn't complain, and that it was much better than being called Mister Toerag, or something along those lines.
Lily withdrew her hand and smiled, folding her gloved wrists one over the other and smiled. "This is a decidedly odd dream." She laughed lightly, dainty color rising to her cheeks. She really had no desire to simply stand where they were but asking a man to walk was inappropriate, even if she wished to her mouth would not form the words.
"But the weather is very lovely outside, have you been out today?"
" Dr-" James caught himself though, and finished that thought inwardly. She thought she was dreaming? James was fairly certain it was an event, unless he was sleeping as well. But not, it was more likely to be an event. However, if she thought it was a dream...then perhaps...
He composed himself and smiled kindly for her. "I have not," he said. "Though walking about by oneself is a lonely prospect, do you not think so?"
James was clever. He knew that if he treated her kindly on a normal occasion, she might assume he wanted something, or that he was just being as much of a prat as she usually thought he was. But perhaps if she thought she was dreaming, James could get away with being a perfect gentleman. If she thought she was dreaming, she might actually believe it.
"I do not and could not ever wish such a thing on you," he said, trying to be as charming as possible. "Perhaps you might accompany me on a stroll outside? Perhaps through the gardens?"
"I would agree, most surely." She nodded and a feather in her hat bobbed a bit with the motion.
This was certainly some dream, Potter was actually..well fairly charming. Must be her mind wishing the best of all qualities on him. After all he was decidedly handsome and polite and the charm...if he were real she might be sorely tempted to forgive his years of being a prat.
"You are most kind, Mister Potter, and I would be very happy to walk with you. The gardens sound lovely." Her arms threaded through his as he offered it, seeming to surprise them both. But linked as they were it felt more than comfortable, it felt very right.
"I must say, it is very pleasant to see you. I must mark my good fortune at having come across you today."
The weight of Lily's arm on his marked his success, and his charming smiles came even easier. This was what he had wanted. Perhaps not so formally, but he had been her boyfriend once already, and had wanted to return to at least a point where she enjoyed his company. He was surprised that it had worked quite so well though. They walked slowly together, as couples joined by the arm do, and exited the castle

The day was brilliant, sun shone high overhead and warmed the grounds. Lily was awestruck, she had seen pretty days before but for some reason this was different. It was the dream, obviously, and she laughed softly. James was so eloquent, so handsome and kind, she was swooning.
"I think everything is perfection today. Nothing can possibly offend today, it is all so.....wondrous."
Her arm hugged his own, free hand closing over his bicep to allow her to be closer, just a touch more contact. Soft scented flowers lined the stone path through the gardens. Birds dared to serenade them with quiet trills of song and even the insects seemed to be conspiring to add to the atmosphere with chirps and twitters.
"I think this all is not to be believed, and yet I wish never to wake from it. A silly notion to you I'm sure."
"Not in the slightest," James replied. "If it meant I could remain here forever, I would never wish to open my eyes again."
He was incredibly lucky regarding the weather, he felt. Had it been storming or cloudy, it may have thrown things off, but it really was a perfect day. James was content this way, and knew Lily was as well. He was more than happy to oblige, standing as close to Lily as she wished, and frankly it made his heart skip a beat to have her be the one initiating such a thing.
"Perhaps it could be believed," he said thoughtfully. "I would certainly prefer this to anything else. Why should it be too good to be true? Such a cynical way to live, even in dreams."
Only breaking from Lily for a moment, James reached to the garden for a flower that had caught his eye. It was a beautiful red color, one that matched Lily's hair perfectly. Rejoining Lily, he carefully handed the flower to her with a smile.
"I'd prefer a more rosy view of the world," he said. "Though, perhaps that seems just a bit absurd."
"That may have been the most beautiful thing I've ever heard someone say." That was outspoken to be sure, but not so much that she could not form the words. She was coming to feel the limitations of this dream world, and it was becoming easier and easier to take part in it.
"Do you think that the world can be so perfect? A man to be so wonderful, a day to be so...breathtaking?" And it was true, all of it. This was all too good to be true, wasn't it?
Case in point, the gesture and flower James passed to her, sweet and fragrant and beautiful. Lily sighed happily and spread her arms to spin slowly around, eyes closed, surrendering to the euphoria of it all.
"I can think of nothing this day is lacking for, can you?"
"But of course," he said. "Perfection like this exists, of that I am certain, and I hope to Merlin that you should remember it always. The smile you have at this moment is..."
James lost his words for a moment, watching her spin about. Despite the trickery involved, he was genuinely happy to see her so pleased. She was so beautiful in this perfect scene, and in ways it was like a dream for him as well. Lily captivated him, even though he was supposed to be the one sweeping her off her feet.
"...breathtaking," he finished.
He thought for just a moment on her question, taking just a little too long to answer. It had to be taken very cautiously, or it would not go over well at all.
"I can think of but only one thing," he said. " If, of course, you do not think it too forward."
"I cannot imagine forgetting this moment, not for all my life." Her smile reassured him that indeed, this would be a dream she would recall for all her days, and recall it with fondness
( ... )
James only smiled in response. Maybe when she discovered that everyone in the mansion had a similar "dream" that night, she might still remember it fondly
( ... )
She rather thought she couldn't possibly ever forget this day, it was too good for that. Like music flowing through her head, this was something that would haunt her memories long after she woke

James had no answer for Lily, as his mouth was a bit busy. Somehow, she tasted even better than he could have imagined, so very sweet. He did not buckle though, but instead remained as he was, supporting Lily so she could stand. James was certain he could have remained that way all day, kissing her and holding her up. He could have remained that way forever.
Very careful to not cause her to fall, he lifted his arms to bring them around her properly, not only to better support her, but to feel her in his arms. He wanted to support her for the rest of his life; he wanted to keep her safe, and love her like this, always. Something told him he deserved this, above all else.
He wanted a lot of things, it seemed, and yet somehow, kissing Lily satisfied his every need. It filled him with warmth, and with a greater magic than any he had ever encountered.
LOL no worries, Lily would never have noticed in her stategifted_witchOctober 29 2009, 03:01:07 UTC
She'd never noticed how strong Potter was, then again this was not the Potter she knew. It was easier to see that now in this dream, than ever. Just being near him felt well she couldn't exactly identify it. But it was like a buzzing in her head, a thousand tiny wings fluttering through her thoughts and making them fuzzy.
Arms wound around her, strong warm arms and Lily felt safe. Was it strange? She couldn't tell if it was odd or not, everything felt so right, as if this was meant to be. It was making her dizzy and heady and completely entranced by him. Even as she eased back from the kiss she was under his spell.
Lily Evans was a popular girl, pretty and well liked and she had kissed and been kissed before. No contact in her life had ever set her heart racing and stolen her breath as this moment. Regaining her feet, one hand touched delicate fingers over her lips. Wide green eyes looked up at him in wonder.
