Anita Blake was not having a good day. This brave new world only added the proverbial cherry to the shit sundae of her day, which, thus far, had already included kidnapping, attempted murder, and a rather large bodyguard using her torso as a stress relieving tool. The electronic journal loosely held in her hands provided few answers, and only served to confirm that either she obliviously resided in a rubber room somewhere in Smithtown General, or she really did turn up in.....in.....another dimension.

She resolved to herself not to call it Wonderland until she, with her own personal eyeballs, viewed an anthropomorphic rabbit obsessing over the time. Absently, her pale hand brushed an errant dark curl from her face, before making fruitless stabs at the various buttons on the device. Anita had never been overly fond of electronics, and this nonsense only served to cement her rather low opinion of them. What good was this thing if it couldn't even make a phone call?

Dean took careful measure of the figure before him. Curvaceous ass, athletic build, pale, and petite. Damn! She was hot. Sweet. She looked like the kind of girl you could just sling over your shoulder and carry off to bed. Travelsized for your convenience.

He grinned and watched her stance. She held herself evenly, without relaxing, ready to throw herself in any direction, a true sign of a hunter. The vibe of distracted and anxious agitation was easy to pick up on. Sammy had it in spades. He'd be willing to bet good money that she was a pacer.

Crouching low he made his way towards her in a slow grapevine, step over step, moving as quietly as he could. When he got close enough to her he stood up and grasped her to his chest, cupping her breasts lovingly and giving them an evaluative squeeze.

“Hmm. If I had to guess I'd say C cup.” he murmured, not aware that his inside voice had become his outside voice.

Anita was used to dealing with supernaturally sneaky vampires, but as she let her gaze wander over the mansion that was the archetypal representation of “Victorian Gothic”, her attention flagged just enough for the man to get his arms around her chest. Immediately tensing in his arms, Anita elbowed her captor under the ribs as hard as she was able. Her training in Judo paid off in spades, as she used her body as an effective lever for the the larger man and twisted him over her shoulder in a classic martial-arts move. He fell to the ground with what appeared to be a painful thud, but Anita stopped herself before popping his knee out of joint. The grunt he made when he landed sounded suspiciously like the same voice that had so recently called her name.

An internal debate between being happy to see another person and being outraged at the grope played out on her face. Eventually settling on the latter, she took a step back from the man and scowled. “Dean, I presume?”

(no godmodding! I cleared it before I wrote it!)

Being elbowed in the solar plexus, and then heaved to the ground, knocked the fun out of Dean along with the air. He was now staring at the sole of her boot, which would have been a nice crotch shot were it not for the pain involved. He raised his hands sheepishly and nodded.

“You're fiesty. I like that,” he wheezed. “Would you believe me if I said your beauty overwhelmed my senses?”
