Pretend I'm witty, plz. )
He had quickly checked the floors, and thought of where Arthur would know to go. Thinking it might be outside or the kitchen, Suzaku ran down the staircase towards the first floor. As he ran down, he noticied that there weren't many people walking about, and it made it seem as if the Mansion was deserted. As he ran through the hallways he heard a voices talking. He glanced over at the two boys and stopped. Maybe they had seen his beloved cat?

...okay then...
Ed was a scientist, and therefore had a healthy (read: deadly) sense of curiosity, but some things were just better left alone.
Footsteps came from nearby, and Edward threw his flesh hand out in front of Al protectively. Some guy. Dressed in weird clothes, some kind of uniform, it seemed. The threads were definitely synthetic.
Ed tilted his head to the side, and gave Alphonse another look as the boy eyed them. Maybe this was his house. "This uh, your house or something?"

There was obviously something very odd going on.
He turned, "Who are you talking --"
"Oh, hello. We're a bit lost."

"Oh, you must be new here. It's not exactly my house, but I do live here. I'm not sure who owns this Mansion, but there are many others who live here! It's not a dangerous place so you don't have to be worried," he said, smiling to reassure the two. "We're currently on the first out of the ten floors of the Mansion."

"The Mansion. Imaginations running wild in here," he snorted, letting his hand fall back to his sides.
"As he said, we're kind of lost, and really, really hungry. S'there a kitchen in here?" Ed could've sworn he'd been walking for at least an hour...only to be stuck in the midst of several similar looking hallways. Disconcerting, definitely.

Concentrating on what the newcomer was saying was difficult; the odd accent gave him pause, but he could understand the words just fine.
He was getting hungry, finally. Alphonse frowned. "We'd like a place to rest. We've been here a while and you're the first person we've seen."

He began walking towards the kitchen, and waited for the two to follow him.

"...hey, did you just speak in English?"
Ed understood that both he and the other boy were (though he sounded more Xingian in pronounciation than anything else), but as far as he knew, there'd been no English speakers in Amestris (German was a very, very close equivalent) and Alphonse couldn't have possibly learned it.
He turned back to Suzaku. "Er, thanks for being so helpful. Anything we can do for you?" Well, as long as you're not leading us into some kind of trap. "I'm Ed, this is Al. What's your name?"

What was going on here? He shook his head hard. Too strange -- even for them.
"I'm Alphonse. Nice to meet you," he said, by way of proper introduction. Only family had ever called him Al, and that was giving this stranger more familiarity than Alphonse was comfortable with.

"I'm Suzaku Kururugi. Nice to meet you both as well, Ed-san and Alphonse-san," he said, bowing his head in greeting. "Do you have any questions about the Mansion you would like answered first?"
Reply
"Right now. You just did it. You just spoke in English. Is there some English-speaking country back home that I don't know about?"
He turned to Suzaku. "Yeah, you can answer how someone how someone who's never heard a language in his life can suddenly speak it!"
Ed somehow, also wondered vaguely what Suzaku thought of the fact that he was still clinging to Alphonse's hand like he'd disappear any minute. He didn't say anything about it, so Ed kept their fingers tightly entwined.

"If I did, I didn't notice it," Alphonse said. Which was scientifically impossible, at least based on the advancements they'd made so far as a society -- he wondered at the possibility of creating an object that could translate languages and couldn't manage to wrap his mind around it.
There had been volumes upon volumes of language books in Central's State Library, but books couldn't magically -- and he was hesitant to use that word -- make people understand one another.
"I don't like this, brother," he said softly, bending low to say near Ed's ear.

"Ahahaha, magic, haha---oh. You're serious about the magic." He coughed as if that would lessen the blow, and nodded slowly. "All magic is generally just some type of science that hasn't been explained yet. We'll figure it out."
As he followed Alphonse into the dining room, he leaned in close to whisper, "I don't like it either. I say we get far away from that guy and this place at once. Magic? I mean, come on."
Ed pulled out a chair at the table and peered over at Suzaku. "Thanks for the help. We won't be needing anything else. We've got our own 'magic', you could say."
If food DID appear, Ed told himself, it was someone doing a fantastic alchemical job (or using a stone). If the person behind it all wasn't a total psychopath, it could be possible to learn from them.
He looked at Suzaku expectantly, waiting for him to leave.

The magic theory seemed a little ridiculous, but Alphonse was starting to expect that ridiculousness was the norm here.
He sat down beside his brother and stared hard at the empty dinnerware in front of them.
Magic. He gave a private, quiet little snort.

Even though Suzaku was told he couldn't read the atmosphere, he was not dense enough to realize that the two obviously didn't want him here. "I'll take my leave then," Suzaku said, bowing his head a little bit and turning around towards the door once more.
