When one lays in bed at night, eyes closed, drifting to sleep, and imagines themselves tripping, that jolt of surprise, that thump of the heart and stirring of blood is precisely what Linda felt. No, she wasn’t falling or reaching her arms to catch herself (in the physical sense), and no, it wasn’t a dream, either (though she constantly had to remind herself of this). But it was shock, surprise, and all of the above. Kite and Beast Boy, the ones in the mansion that she held most dear, liked-liked her back. Was it a Love Triangle? No so much. Best friends, who grew to feel a little something more after enduring laughter, tears, sorrow, and whatever else that fits in the spectrum of emotion. And hearing verbal confirmation of this was surprising. A jolt of happiness.

And now Kite had such an adorable smile on his face, and the expression on Beast Boy’s face made Linda want to laugh and hug him at the same time. After her little mental tripping, she was floating.

An idea weaseled through her thoughts, given strength by her joy.

“Let’s move into a room together!” She blurted it out, and before her mind had a chance to catch up with her mouth, she continued on, “See, since both of you lost your roommates, and I totally never had one, and I’d totally be able to keep a better watch on you two, and like, uh, it would be like that one time we all spent the night together, but all the time, and if like, things go bad, we can always move out, right? And if anything, it can be just to get over the whole sudden “Ohmigosh, no roommates, this is kinda scary” thing, you know? And then, if everything’s okay, we can stay like that, and it’ll be totally fun and stuff.”

What, Linda. Shut up, shut up, just shut up now. Don’t make a bigger dork of yourself. That was so totally stupid; they’ll never be able to take you seriously, ever.

Her mind had caught up.

I mean, moving in?! That’s what like, married people did, and then they had children and pets and stuff and all lived together in one house happily ever after or whatever. This wasn’t for her bestest friends, the ones that she like-liked, you know? Plus, they’d never agree. Never ever.

So much for that light-hearted, utmost joy she had experienced earlier.
