Bridge - Day 44 - private/unfinished

Jul 19, 2010 21:21

Despite the fact that the bridge of the Enterprise was really cool, often brimming with intelligent, brilliant people, and, quite likely, the best damn deck on the ship, a quiet shift there was the worst. At least other places, it was easier to slack off or find make-work projects. Or, better yet, just go bum around and see where help could be ( Read more... )

If he had to spend another hour staring blankly at the happily blinking little green readout indicating that they were perfectly on course and he wasn't really needed at all, he was actually going to lose it. They were going in a straight line. With absolutely no obstacles in their path. Why did he even need to be here at all?

The readout blinked. Adrian blinked back, and not for the first time contemplated learning to sleep with his eyes open.

The 'new message' icon popped up in the corner of his screen. He gave it a faintly surprised look and opened it, radiating an air of 'nope, no skiving here, just checking the course again...', and grinned inwardly.

As if you're any less bored than I am.

Endlessly amused both by how fast Adrian had replied and how not like replying he looked, Robert was quick to open the response. Quick, too, to purse his lips to hide his grin as he replied.

Not even Mr. Spock could find excitement here.

Adrian took a moment to bring up the main drive readouts so he could switch over to them quickly if anyone happened to walk past. Cover story taken care of, he set out replying to Les' message.

Guess we'll have to make our own excitement then ;)

Robert was distracted a moment replying to a legitimate message from Engineering. One of the little things he'd been working on had been passed to someone else, who apparently didn't have one sweet clue what she was doing. That sorted, he left the window open as if contemplating a response while he composed one for the pilot.

Think we'll get in trouble for purposely getting lost?

For a moment he actually seriously contemplated the suggestion. But reluctantly, he was forced to concede that it was probably not a good idea. A fash of inspiration struck him and he began typing.

Hangman? Oh, Robert could so play hangman. Whether he could play it and not get caught being smug when he won was a different story.

Let's start with good old E.

ps No. Uhura would kill our fun in a microsec.

He really wanted to grin when Les played along. That would get them caught pretty quickly, though, so he continued looking bored as he sent his repl- sorry, rechecked course and speed.

Oh, yeah. He'd forgotten about that. Some ship constants didn't change too much. Thinking more about Uhura than the game for this letter, at least, Robert replied.

Give me T.

ps Force of fear habit. She's somewhere between Chapel and my mom on the list of women who know everything and will cut fun off immediately. She could still do it away.

Adrian snorted, nearly laughing, but managed to pass it off as a cough.

[dude, I'm impressed. I didn't think it was even possible to be whipped by someone you're not in a relationship with]

That was just unfair. Robert was adamant he wasn't whipped, just raised right. But, still, having to purse his lips to keep from laughing as he checked his navigational scans and then replied.

H. Obviously.

ps Respecting and fearing the terrifying womenfolk of our crew =/= whipped.

He had to duck his head to hide his grin at that. Look, those drive readouts were just really interesting, okay?

Stealing a glance sideways at Adrian, Robert had to purse his lips harder to keep from laughing.

A?

Rolling his eyes, Robert responded to another message from Engineering before sending one back to the pilot.

Just because the word 'sith' comes to mind, give me S.

ps You are not nearly as marvelous and lovable as you think you are.
