Another Random Turbolift - Day 40 (morning) - [private/unfinished]

He stood before it, staring. The damn thing just stood right back, looking innocuous. The voice in the back of his head that Leonard liked to ignore told him he was being ridiculous. These kinda things happen sometimes. The rest of his brain adamantly yelled back that this was the goddamn flagship of the Fleet! You don't let mistakes like this happen twice. Which that voice piped back, reassuring that there shouldn't be a third time then.

It made perfect sense, really. Probably why he didn't trust it.

Leonard sighed, trying to look like he had a reason for gaping at the turbolift when an ensign showed up to use it. Twice now, he'd gotten caught in the damn things. And though his time spent with Tony last night had been a little easier -- thank god for that man and the likelihood of him carrying around spirits, even if just cooking spirits -- than that night with Chekov... Leonard had had enough of turbolifts. If he didn't need to run down some microtapes to Engineering, he wouldn't even be contemplating using one now. And if it wasn't so important to have these tapes first thing this morning, he'd wait until he had a nurse to take them down. That's what he got for coming in before shift.

"Sir? Are you getting on?" the ensign asked hesitantly, holding the lift open for him.

Good question.

With a sigh and an internal eye roll, Leonard got on. Those other times had happened after work. Maybe the system was just taxed after a long day of high traffic? Things seemed to be going well enough as they traveled down several levels. Stopped normally enough to let the ensign off. Someone else boarded, traveled down a couple of levels, then got off just as easily. As a new passenger boarded, Leonard felt himself relax a little. Finally, maybe his string of bad turboluck had passed.
