Dear Mom and Dad,
Just to let you know, we're going to be out of the normal Federation comm range for a few days. So if you've got any fun stories to tell me about the neighbours or the cats, they'll have to wait.
Things are alright up here on the Enterprise, so stop that worrying I know you're up to. Space is not all about danger, although, as a point of interest, our first mission resulted in Sickbay looking worse than Bourbon Street on Ash Wednesday... but I suppose that's a story for the next time I'm home.
