My clueless History teacher and another question

Hei, kultas. Kuinka on jokainen? (Hey, sweethearts. How is everyone?)

It's a Tuesday. Honestly, I hate Tuesdays. Not that I had a bad day today - I had a fair day - it's just that on Tuesdays, you're even more tired than you were on Monday because your sleep lack has only increased. I actually fell asleep in ACT Prep and History today. Gah. At least I didn't get caught. I think.

Normal day, in other words. Kinda tiring. I got a fairly strange request, though. Since in US History we're moving on to the Vietnam War (which I quite enjoy researching, same as WWII), my teacher, Mr. D, asked if any of us had relatives who served in the war. There were a couple people, including me. My dad was in the Navy as a flight technician - he knew he was going to be drafted, so he joined the Navy to avoid getting thrown into the jungle - so I raised my hand, and now I've got Mr. D begging me to ask my dad to come into the class and talk about the war.

Um, I'm sorry, Mr. D, but as you may have noticed, the Vietnam War is a bit of a touchy subject with those who served in it. My dad rarely talks about it. He talks about the off-duty time he had while he was in the Phillipines, but that's it. I don't know anything about the rest, not from him (I don't even know what he was decorated for, he refuses to speak of it), and I doubt he's going to rattle off his life story to a bunch of rowdy juniors.

Anyway.

Quite ironically, my AP English class was also about war, in a sense, anway. We wrote a one page essay on our opinion of the draft. Rather interesting.

Bluntly put, I oppose the draft and, quite frankly, the concept of war. I don't believe that the government should be able to force anyone to sacrifice their life for what they don't believe in or support. Enlisting is a choice that shouldn't be made by anyone but the enlistee (?). No one should be made to serve a country. Also, the draft (or the potential draft) is discriminatory against youth (the registration for the "Selective Service System" is men 18-25) and men: Women do not register for the draft, and when they enlist, they are not allowed to fight or see combat. One, it's not equal, and two, it's wrong in the first place.

So I bet you all know where THIS is leading... *evil grin* So...what's your opinion on the draft? Should it be reinstated? Left in the dust as it has been? Tell me! I must know!

Remember: Comments section is NUETRAL. Your opinion and my "thanks!", nothing else. Nasty words or comment wars send you on a one-way ticket to...uh...somewhere unhappy and dismal...but I'll delete you, so be nice. ;)

IT'S A KANGAROO!
