Fish out of water

Jan 20, 2011 02:31

Sora had been out of her cryo-sleep pod for only a few hours, but she was already feeling more confused and overwhelmed than she had in a very long time. This was stranger than Utopia Academy, and that was saying something. She'd apparently been asleep in some sort of pod for a while, and upon awakening someone had stuck a slimy creature of some ( Read more... )

"You need to focus," Roxie says from a different table. "On something else," she offhandedly adds.

She has a tray covered with enough food bricks for six people.

Sora looked up at the girl who'd spoken. Was she talking to her? Ah, it appeared she was.

"Uh... focus?" She looked more than a bit clueless as she repeated the word. "What do you mean?"

"Don't think about eating. Just eat. The internal dissociation gets easier once you've tried it."

Roxie picks up one of her food bricks and ... eats it. It all happens quickly enough that it's not really clear where the parts like 'chewing', 'swallowing', or 'eating small enough pieces not to choke on it' happened.

Sora looks back down at her own brick and wrinkles her nose. But if this is all there is to eat around here...

She picks it up and takes a bite out of it. It's not as bad as it looked, but she's definitely had better. She chews it just enough to swallow, and the look on her fact indicates that she absolutely did not take the other girl's advice.

"But they're so bad!"

This girl was so cute. That was the first thought that came to mind.

And then she started speaking, and Sora listened to what she said. She smiled in a friendly sort of way. "Ah, I see... You can burn soup?" She hadn't heard of that before.

"Fletob..." Sora frowned. Was that a word? Aaah, what was up with this place?

She nodded. "I'm Sora. It's nice to meet you, Akakias." Another strange word. This really was a brand new place, wasn't it? "Hey, do you want to be friends?"

"It is probably best if you simply eat that "thing" as quickly as possible," Victoria mused from a few tables over, "It helps to stave off he horrid taste of it all."

"But it's so, so bad," Sora whined. She'd already gotten through one and gone back for seconds, being hungry enough that it overrode her taste buds. But now she was staring at the brick, unwilling to eat.

"Yes, I know, but it is the most abundant food on the station," Victoria stated moving closer to the young girl. "So, it is best to get used to it now."

She frowned down at the brick again and poked it with one finger. A knight had to make sacrifices...

But for now, she looked up at the new woman. She was... strange-looking, but breathtaking. Sora couldn't help staring. "I'll try."

Getting stuff around on the station can be weird. Sometimes things get moved from compartment to compartment by EVA pod, or crude elevators get constructed...

...and sometimes, somebody rides fully-loaded carts of stuff through the hallways and rooms, only just barely managing not to run into something. "Wooo!" Tess is wearing her suit, though the faceplate is open.

Sora has finally finished her second foodbrick and is about ready to leave when she the cart comes barreling into the cafeteria.

And Sora, the clumsy oaf that she is, turns and runs right into it, knocking it over and falling backward.

And the jolt of the cart tipping makes Tess fall over-

"Hello!" she says brightly, laying atop Sora. Oof, she's heavy. Even if that skintight suit doesn't look like it should be, and her figure is rather-well. She's not the kind of person to get easily embarrassed, apparently, as she smoothly gets back to her feet and offers a hand to Sora without even a blush.

Sora, quite thankfully, is the sort of person who's completely clueless to anything of that nature. She doesn't even seem to realize that the position they were in was problematic in any way.

She pushes herself up, taking the woman's hand and grinning sheepishly. "Sorry! I wasn't looking where I was going..."
