This month over on
scifiland there was a challenge to create a "10 things..." meta list or picspam. Since I really have been meaning to get around to trying my hand at a picspam, I figured it was as good a time as any - plus I get my team some points! (W00t! Go Team Sidekick!)
So below the cut are my top 10 favorite sci-fi (tv verse) pairings! If you know me, these shouldn't be too surprising. ;) And yes, I'm aware this is an overwhelmingly slashy list, I'm afraid my het & femslash pairings are in other fandom genres or just don't top the ones listed below.
Jack O'Neill & Daniel Jackson (Stargate SG-1)
Classic, how could I not fall for them? This is the Stargate world slash pairing with roots all the way back in the original film. :D The chemistry between these two is amazing and they have amazing moments together. Definitely my OTP in SG-1. (I also absolutely love Janet/Sam, am partial to Narim/Sam and Sam/Teal'c, and have this total curiosity and love for Daniel/Martouf and Daniel/Nyan.)
Blair Sandburg & Jim Ellison (The Sentinel)
The slash pairing of all slash pairings (in the '90s at least, lol). Like the Jack-Daniel dynamic above, these two compliment each other beautifully. ♥ These guys are a package deal, stuff goes seriously wrong if you catch one without the other. Plus, these two actors are hilarious and adorable together! I have to squeal my little fangirl out here and say that I got to see these two together at the Moodridge Zoo auction/benefit back in 2004 and they were freaking amazing! (Plus, omg, I got pics with me standing between the two XD *fangirls madly*)
Ahem. Done with that now :3 Actually - if you have access to these episodes digitally, please, please let me know. I have no vcr anymore and that's the only way I've owned the episodes. :\ Please help a poor fangirl?
Jack Carter & Nathan Stark (Eureka)
A newer love of mine, these two are awesome together. So much potential untapped, too, but damn are there some fantastic fic authors around here who do a nice job expanding on the interactions! Waiting impatiently to hear about Stark in this new tangled 'verse of Eureka, btw.
Dana Scully & Fox Mulder (The X-Files)
This pairing is one of the very, very few canon pairings that I love and whole-heartedly approve. Their relationship takes many seasons to grow and there is constantly character development as well as an evolving relationship. These characters grow stronger as their relationship develops, they do not devolve into wibbling idiots. Their willingness to sacrifice for each other makes sense, unlike some other scenarios I can think of... >_>
Wash & Zoe (Firefly)
FAVORITE CANON PAIRING of any fandom. :D How can you not adore them? It's Wash and beautiful, courageous, kickass warrior!woman Zoe! Every moment of these two together is precious (you know what I mean) but I admit one of my very favorites is Wash and "the fearsome brow mop" from "Objects in Space." :D
James T. Kirk & Spock (Star Trek)
The ultimate slash pairing. Some people identify this as "(one of) the" first slash pairing, but you might want to turn your eyes to Man from UNCLE. ;) Beyond that, must I say anything about these two? They're Kirk and Spock! What more do you want me to say?
Illya Kuryakin & Napoleon Solo (Man from U.N.C.L.E.)
First slash pairing? Maybe, maybe not. This duo goes back the farthest of any other OTPs on my list. In fact, you might even say Illya and Napoleon were the instigators of another major slash pairing. I mean, you do know that William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy first appeared together on an episode of UNCLE, right? ("The Project Strigas Affair") Anyway, these two are the awesomest, most skilled, and most successful team you'll ever know. These two spies could take Bond any day.
Apollo & Starbuck (Battlestar Galactica [original])
It's not very frequently that I talk about these two, but watching any bit of BSG reminds me just how well they match up in the melodrama that is this space opera. They make the classic series enjoyable and liven up the fanfic side of fandom. =D
Malcolm Reynolds & Simon Tam (Firefly)
YAY! I love these two and the potential for mayhem and heartache and joy and ridiculous amounts of complication. There's nowhere near enough fic and awesome fannish contributions for this pairing - be kind and feed my addiction. :3
And my NUMBER 1 OTP OF ALL TIME, ANY FANDOM:
Bruce Lewis & Johnny Smith (The Dead Zone)
Why? In all honesty, I can't really explain why they are my favorite of all favorites, but I adore this pairing. They are, quite simply, soulmates. Whether or not you want to see that in a romantic light is up to you, but they are destined. That, in fact, is canon.
Pastor Lewis: You were wrong about one thing--we're not all just stumbling around in the dark. You found your destiny...[re: Johnny] at his side. Protecting him.
~ Season Two, "Zion," Conversation between David Lewis (Bruce's father) and Bruce at the end of the vision of an alterverse.
Johnny: “I almost lost it. Became that other person. Crossed that line.”
Bruce: “Only you didn’t. You’re no Greg Stillson, John. You’re a good man, and a good man remembers where that line is.”
J: “Or maybe I was just lucky you were there to remind me.”
B: “Me? I was half way downtown chasing that mugger. How could I remind you- In a vision? But I thought in your last... You mean something I said when I was, when I was dying?”
J: “It was like you knew it was a vision, and that when it was over, I’d still need your help.”
B: “So something I said when I was dying in a vision of the future that never happened...?” Too strange. Confusion. “Guess it proves one thing. It always pays to listen to me.”
J: Still somber. “And what if you’re not there next time?”
B: “I’ll always be there, man. Trust me. And more importantly, trust yourself.”
J: “I wish I could.”
~ Season Three, "Shadows," Dialogue between Johnny and Bruce after a day of trying to keep Bruce from getting killed.
And that is all. For now. =D I will of course have other things from
scifiland to show off in the future, and now I'm interested in trying my hand at some more picspam-iness.
