(This video rocks and this song just got stuck in my head earlier, so enjoy!)
ANYWAY! FREAKING AWESOME NEWS AT LONG LAST! I got a job! I interviewed last week and got the news this morning that I got a teaching position at an organization that primarily works with Vietnamese, Karen, and various ethnic groups from Burma. It's going to be a very different population from the primarily Somali, Oromo, Amharic, Ecuadorian, and Mexican students I've been working with the past few years. It's gonna also be totally weird to switch organizations.
It's the low end of the teaching pay scale ($15/h) but it is stable, it's 25 hours a week, our breaks have a few halfpaid days, and once I've been employed for a few months, I get to take vacation days. I start Dec. 9 so this week and next I'll be wrapping up a couple volunteering days and four teaching days at IEC. It's something of a bittersweet victory, this, but I really got on well with the coordinator during my interview and this organization is plugged into some great community resources for the students, which I love. It's wonderful (and oh so necessary, really) to have support social services readily available.
And now, I'm gonna go dance another victory jig and work on some NaNoWriMo writing so that I can claim my victory this week!
