[JMM] Everyone wants to get into heaven, but no one wants to die.

She’d been running for so long she should have known that she would get caught eventually.

Her deal was that she’d stay out of Lilith’s way. She would stay alive provided she didn’t find a way to help Dean survive, and regardless of how she felt about Dean, as far as she was concerned, she was the more important party. It was about survival, and Bela mentally reassured herself that it wasn’t anything personal against the Winchesters, it was just business. That was all.

She was in a hotel room in Charleston when he finally caught up with her. How he managed to get past the electronic lock was beyond her, but he did, and when she returned from her dinner with her client, he was there, ready and willing to do his worst. And his worst, apparently, was worse than she had expected.

She had just figured he’d kill her and be done with it. It would make the most sense really. But instead he took his time. Dragging it out and bringing her back, over and over again until she was ready to beg for him to just end it all. But she didn’t. Her pride wouldn’t let her. She had survived through so much already, and she wasn’t just going to let it all go because Sam Winchester decided to make her want to. She grit her teeth and bit down on the screams and watched her body bleed through disaffected eyes because it was the only thing she could do. She sat back and took it, and waited for him to get bored.

But then her body started to get tired. Couldn’t deal with the shock of being kept alive for so long. Her body was losing blood and her vision was hazing around the edges and she didn’t know what else she could do. She wasn’t going to give Sam the satisfaction of knowing that, though. She wasn’t going to tell him that she was dying and beg to survive. Instead, she was just going to slip away, and hope that there was something better than what she had been anticipating on the other side.

“Bela? Oh Bel-la?”

Her eyes closed and her body slumped, hearing his voice swim around in the haze that her mind was becoming. Death at the hands of a Sam Winchester who had lost his mind. There was probably someone out there who would find that poetic. She, on the other hand, just wanted it all to end. His laughter rang distorted and harsh in her ears as the rest of the world faded to black.

“Say goodnight, Bela.”

Goodnight, Sam.
