[QT!] Han Solo quote

Mar 30, 2008 23:41

[Set in wayward_sons21. The Kutner referred to here is prodefibrillist, and is played by me. This is just adding backstory to their relationship (which, by the way, is totally blamed on Van Wilder 2: The Rise of Taj and the crack in my brain).]

“Good luck. You're gonna need it.”

Bela rolled her eyes as the other man fidgeted with his suit. “Would you relax? It’s just a suit.”

“Contrary to popular belief, not every man is automatically comfortable in a suit,” Kutner fidgeted with his tie enough that it was starting to come undone. “I’m sure the same theory goes for women in a dress?” He looked back at her, almost amused, and Bela gave a heavily annoyed sigh, before turning him to face her, and starting to pull at his tie.

“I’m not asking you to be comfortable. I’m just asking you to look relatively decent,” she replied as she fixed the not. “Besides-that’s a crock of bull. All a man needs to pull off a suit is a little confidence.”

“So you’re saying that dressing like the elite and pulling it off, no matter how used to it you are, is basically mind over matter.”

“Precisely.”

“Bullshit.”

“Excuse me?”

“I mean, I get that kind of thing, alright? I worked in sports medicine. You need the confidence, determination, all of that to achieve your goals. However, the same reasoning can’t be applied when you’re wearing a collar that feels like it’s about to come to life and choke you to death at any second. It’s not a fun feeling. Plus the tie only adds emphasis to that feeling, this jacket isn’t wide enough in the shoulders, the shoes are pinching my feet-”

“Kutner.”

“Yes, Bela?”

“You’re rambling.”

“-sorry.”

“Try and keep a lid on that tonight, yeah?”

“I’ll do my best.”

“Good,” she said, patting him on the chest lightly and turning to head out the door. She had made it to the doorframe before she heard his footsteps falling in step behind her. She tried to hide the smirk that slid across her face as she made her way to her car. He was such an obedient little puppy.

“So do I get to be in on the job?”

“No,” Bela said flatly as she climbed into the driver’s seat of the car, and started it as she waited for Kutner to climb in next to her. When he did, he may have been pouting, but she hoped for his sake that he wasn’t.

“Why not?” That was definitely a whine. That earned him a glare from the woman next to him as she kicked the car into gear.

“Because-you nearly got us both busted the last time, remember?”

“Oh, c’mon-you’d think after I-”

“After you want? Salted and burned a few bodies you think you’re ready for the big boy jobs?”

“No, I just-I thought we were partners.”

Bela slammed on the breaks, bringing the car to a dead stop in the middle of the road. Both of them lurched forward slightly from the momentum, and she turned and gave him a look. “Partners?”

“Yeah, well-we’ve been working together for a while now.”

“Let’s make one thing perfectly clear. You are my cover. We are not partners, we are not colleagues, we’re not even friends. You are here to distract everyone else while I finish the job, and nothing more. If you do anything to sabotage this job for me, I will show you why they say I have an itchy trigger finger.” She paused for a moment, gauging his face slightly. “Are we clear?”

“Crystal.”

“Perfect,” she said with a sigh, before turning away from him and starting to drive the car again. It was going to be a very long night.
