Firstly: HAPPY BIRTHDAY, COURTNEY! My little Courts isn't a teenager anymore! She's *20*!!!! (collective gasp!)
In celebration, we all went to Pura Vida over in the Highlands for some tapas and conversation. I must say, you may only get a few bites of each tapa, but it's soooooo good! Just sitting around a table, eating with friends - it's a simple pleasure. There is nothing that I love more than food & drink & laughter.
Then to make a nice evening nicer we came home to watch the new Aladdin special edition DVD!! :-) Aladdin is a classic. There's nothing more to it. It's brilliant. It's wonderful. You want to sing along with every song. I hadn't seen it since my summer camp counselor days, so I truly enjoyed every minute. Disney was such a part of my childhood, and no matter what happens, you just can't diss the Mouse. Seriously. Our generation was blessed with the best animated films of all time with the best songs *ever*. I remember I went to see Little Mermaid with my first "boyfriend" Nevin McConnell. I think we held hands. And I remember the first time I saw Aladdin with Twin and our best friend and neighbor, Meredith. Such happy memories...
I think Beauty and the Beast will always resonate with me, though. I mean, lets just think about this for a moment....a simple brown-eyed brunette, a lover of books and reading, misunderstood by the townspeople?? :-) The whole fall-in-love-with-a-beast thing doesn't really work for me, however! I'd prefer an original prince. Or a streetrat...:-)
In any case, the lovely experience put me in quite a nostalgic mood. Things were so simple when I was a kid. No worries. I played with dolls, scampered about in the woods, got dirty, swung in swings, climbed trees, happily pranced about in floaty flouncy dresses that swished when you spinned about (they had to swish! That was the test!), and generally lived life to the fullest. How can we recapture that feeling? I feel as though I wake up to get through the day. It's just one more step to get to the future...I wonder if I can change that mindset.
To jump completely to another unrelated topic: WOW. IT'S ELECTION DAY!!!! HOLY SHIT!!! I'm sooo nervous!! This is just so important, and as an INTA major it's freaking huge. I CANNOT stand Bush's foreign policy. I will seriously be filled with a numbing dread if he's re-elected. So go out there and vote people!!! Let your voices be heard!! (Even if you are an evil Bush lover. In the principles of democracy, I extend my plea to you)
A nice Disney quote for good karma:
Yes, you want her
Look at her, you know you do
It’s possible she wants you, too
There is one way to ask her
It don’t take a word
Not a single word
Go on and kiss the girl
Sing with me now
Sha-la-la-la-la-la
My, oh, my
Look at the boy too shy
He ain’t gonna kiss the girl
Sha-la-la-la-la-la
Ain’t that sad
Ain’t it shame, too bad
You gonna miss the girl
