Niiiiiight Vaaaaaale.

This is pretty much the sum of what I've been up to lately. There was other stuff, like laundry and phone chargers and hairbrushes, but Niiiight Vaaale.

I really like subversive radio host!Cecil, even as I struggle with the podcast's own limitations when it comes to conveying the world to us. Cecil is already saying too much for the radio host of a town completely bought out by an evil corporation [1], but OTOH they have to have some solid text under which to sneak a subtext.

My hurt/comfort-loving heart (specifically, of the hurt!Carlos and Carlos-in-danger sort) would like some follow-up from that ominous meeting with Lauren Mallard. (Speaking of which - for a corporation that is presumably trying to hide their true faces, she was pretty open about the lack of care for human lives.) That was as close as saying "we'll be hunting down your science boyfriend" as they needed to get.

(Why so much woobie!Cecil? Carlos is the one who keeps needing saving, and not just any old way, but by my favourite method ever, the Epic Man Carry. And I do love a Carlos-in-danger and epically worried Cecil. I'd kind of like the whole town to take turns saving Carlos, including Steve Carlsberg and Old Woman Josie.)

But then no mention of Carlos - is Cecil maybe, belatedly, trying to protect him by keeping him out of the show and thus corporate scrutiny? Or...? I was going to suggest more subtle, evil scenarios - they can have so much fun with the format, given what a little window we have towards that huge, sprawling, spiraling, tendril hub-ed world - but Cecil is still definitely aware, and definitely subversive, so they haven't Kevin-ed him yet. So he probably hasn't been made to forget Carlos. Yet. ;-)

And I like those little mentions so much - like the unbearably sweet "there's somewhere in Night Vale I'd like to be" at the end of Lazy Day (for as much as I like speculating why Carlos, of all people, wasn't affected by the general "laziness" - maybe because he's an Outsider? and maybe he wasn't the only one, it's just that Cecil didn't bother checking on other people? certainly not because of Strex-related reasons... >:) ) And the "I'll take that last, honest one" after The Auction.

[1] This is probably not the place for political thoughts and reminiscence. Nobody cares about my socialist childhood, and surreptitiously listening to Radio Free Europe while being sternly instructed by parents to not mention it in any other context than family. But RFE was openly subversive, while none of the officially allowed stations were in any way subversive. And it was politics, and real, and the monsters in suits were real.

Hm, the BSG Sharon was the first icon I thought of for this post. (I don't have a Night Vale icon. Seeing how it's a podcast and all.) I keep having Battlestar dreams. There's something about that world, that one and ASoIaF.
