Help Maverick!Crieff me choose a smart phone!
I need a smart phone that:
- is not smarter than the owner (i.e. me) (I don't need to broadcast a live video of me bungee-jumping in high winds, nor do I need it to solve an NP-complete problem while composing a guitar jingle)
- lets me read my emails and the occasional fic with relative ease, and maybe even take part in an online chat (yes, I mean the AD&T Campfire meetings)
- I can afford - i.e. not the latest and shiniest Apple concoction
- is easy on the wrists and fingers (I found that touch screens might be better for me than buttons, for this reason alone)
- can take a few drops and kicks
- has a full (touch)keyboard option; I think I've had it with the three-letters-in-a-boa typing, even with the predictive features
- has a map thingy (GPS, maps, stuff) - I often get lost, especially in this exciting city still new to me
So far I'm pondering the Samsung Galaxy something-something, the Blackberry Curve umpteen-and-change (the one with touch screen only), and the older iPhone, in this order.
I've used Samsung for the past years, although only a basic phone, like phones were meant to be, and it's been very hard-wearing. And I'd have the advantage of a familiar interface, even though the design choices were not always my favourites.
(But then, the iPhone would probably bring some familiarity too, given that I'm now used to the Mac. I just still have this mulish desire to fight the iEverything disease.)
