I have had an incredible week! Even though this week consisted of more early mornings, everything has been really pleasant.
We are finally going to have a gig after a really long time. Met up with the guy in charge from Hotel Rendezvous this evening and so far everything seems to be going well. I can't wait to make music again.
Thankfully, despite the lack of jamming, there was still MOTHER! the musical showcase thingy to keep things exciting.
Thanks for those who came down, really appreciated it and I hope you had fun watching.
The title of the showcase was chosen cos all songs were supposed to be ARGH! type of songs.
For those who came and didn't know, MOTHER was supposed to be the cut version of the exclamation "Mother F**k**".
Ok, now it doesn't look as nice already right......
I certainly learnt a lot from this showcase working with people who have had a lot more performing experience on stage or those who have theatre background. I guess it is good to be the "weakest link" (as Marcus puts it) in this sense. Although you feel the most stressed and at times you wonder why on earth did they even ask you to join, you are also stretched to your max to learn and grow.
And I think I have! Through this performance (and especially from the previous one).. Always room for improvement for me though! Did I mention I finally plucked up the guts to watch the recording from the previous performance? I was laughing in horror.
I guess the most important thing I took away from this was again, on having confidence and believing in yourself- which also equates to not really caring how others see you. By this I mean to not be affected by or afraid that people would think you suck. I am always caught up in thinking how lousy I am and how bad I sound that sometimes it just kills the whole point of performing and any form of confidence that may potentially appear.
Learning is all just considered head knowledge though. I have to actually believe this.
Like, what happens if I go off pitch or if I forget my lyrics or if I laugh out loud during the performance?
Well. If it happens, it happens. Life goes on, it is not the end of the world. I can groan about it upon reflection, but I hope to laugh about it, laugh at it and just shrug it all off.
So anyway. Some photos from the night's performance:
Singing "What I did for Love' by The Chorus Line. This was actually a really confusing opening cos a lot of us got confused by the lyrics and we all sang something slightly different at some of the verses. I think we were trying to cover it up by smiling a lot (:
Housewares Employee - Evil Dead the Musical
This was the most fun song I had to learn. The lyrics are so cheesy and funny and ridiculous. I always laughed out loud for this song for every rehearsal because Zat was always coming up with silly moves which cracked me up all the time.
I am pretty sure this was during "Hair - Hair the Musical". This song had one of the most challenging bits of lyrics to remember:
"I want it long, straight, curly, fuzzy, snaggy, shaggy, ratty, matty,
oily, greasy, fleecing, shining, gleaming, steaming, flaxen, waxen,
knotted, polka-dotted, twisted, beaded, braided,
powdered, flowered and confettied,
bangled, tangled, spangled and spaghettied....."
Yep. 28 hair related adjectives for you.
The crowd we had to sing to that evening. I hope they weren't bored! Not many people laughed the at funny songs though which was rather disappointing. I thought the funny songs were really brilliant! I laughed so hard when I heard it the first time.
And of course, none of this would have been possible without our pianist! He was brilliant. Especially for the song "Electricity" which happens to be one of my favourite songs of the set.
{Thanks to
Aidil for his photos!
I stole them off Facebook!
The rest of the really nice photos are on his page! More over there of the individual performers.}
