Why can't things just work???

I decided to take on the task of learning to retexture hair for TS3 today. And I learned.

As you can see I can now retexture hair and change the control (kind of, there are some that need more control editing but I will cross that bridge when I get to it).

Here is the weird colours preview so you can see how the controls work and change.

It's all looking good, right? I can retexture hair using CTU, I can play around with the control, the Ninika/Chokelate texture is looking fabulous with both the EA control and the Anubis control. It's all fine and dandy, right? I will now go on a rampage retexturing hair with Ninika's textures, right?

WRONG!!!

I have Windows 7 64 bit which means that I cannot retexture custom hair. I have tried every fix that I have seen suggested, namely installing .Net Framework 2.0 (won't work, I have entirely the wrong operating system for it) and installing both DirectX developer tools (won't work, refuses to install) and DirectX 10 (won't work because, surprise surprise, it won't install because I have entirely the wrong operating system for it). I have even tried running CTU in Win XP compatibility mode. It still throws errors every time I try to open a custom mesh.

I am so fracking mad I would happily rip off the head of whoever is responsible for this fuckery and use the wet neck stump to paint on walls.

If there is anyone out there who knows how to make CTU behave with Win 7 64 bit OR how to retexture TS3 hair using other tools, ones which work with my particular operating system, please let me know how to do either or both of those. In the meantime, operation learn to retexture is both a complete success and miserable failure and I will now finish my beer, brush my teeth and go to sleep because I am feeling rather miserable about the whole thing.

rant, request, sims 3
