(no subject)
In a half an hour argument I received these sweet tidbits of facts from my oh so "lovely and fabulous" roommate.....
....
1. Any opinion that opposes her's is wrong.
2. More specifically, my opinion is completely and utterly wrong on ALL accounts.
3. It's not correct that my lifestyle, and in a way, my opinion is different based on (a) Cultural setting, (b) Parents' cultural settings, (c) My upbringing, (d) My parents' upbringing, (e) My own personality (including: likes, dislikes), (f) My own intelligence.
4. I am dumb, no matter what, I will always be dumb because I am not her, therefore I am wrong.
5. Since my major has nothing to do with said argument, I know nothing about it. (Though, her major is not vaguely close either, she just took one class.)Since when does taking one class make you the smartest and knowingnest expert in the world?
6. Leads onto, I have a crap major, and I am stupid because I don't have to work as hard as much as she does.
7. What I would do in a situation differs from what she would do in a situation (that the argument is based off of) and therefore, my actions, based off of my personality and my conscious, are wrong in all senses, and therefore every single logical part of it is wrong as well.
8. I am not allowed to have my own opinion whatsoever.... Ever.
9. Hell, I'm not even allowed to think on my own without being wrong!!
10. My personality, my lifestyle, my emotions, my conscious, all that lead up to how I live and grow and what I base my opinion and morals on... mean jackshit to her, therefore, mean jackshit to the entire world, meaning, I am useless waste of space life form.
11. Because I am wrong, she has no respect for me, and believes that she has the ability to walk all over me, simply because my opinion and personality is different.
12. I don't give a shit what her opinions are, what she likes and dislikes, what she thinks is right and wrong. It's all good for her, it gives spice to the world. What I give a SHIT ABOUT is how she is CLOSE-MINDED and PREJUDICED about EVERYONE OPPOSING HER in general! And no matter what, you will ALWAYS be wrong and in that respect INFERIOR to her SUPERIORITY.
With all that out in the air, these things are not going to cause me to lose any respect toward her, or make me want to be her friend any less.
The final thing I learned tonight... I am perhaps more open-minded, at least, more so than she is. I accept people for who they are, because they have different outlooks on life, because it brings a broader range of knowledge and outlook on life. Because it is culture in itself, and being apart of culture makes you feel rich in personality and friendship.
I also learned that I am a stubborn bitch who just put myself on a pedastal by believing that I am open-minded and therefore better. I shall proceed to at least take the ego down a few notches so not to get the same sort of hoity-toity attitude that they have pertained as part of themselves.
