I recently experienced nostalgia with the Old West. Perhaps i see clearly what technology has done for people. Our progression is advancing laziness. I believe you feel more worthy after a day of surviving. 'Cuz thats what you did everyday in the Old West, survive. Whether it be foraging for food, firewood, materials, tools, hunting, building, tending to livestock and education, interacting with a community that are in the same predicament as you. I don't recieve the same worth in this age. Greed powers everything society lust for their own rise to power or a status of fame and wealth. I know that this has existed since humanity was concieved. At least back then the power wasn't as one sided as it is now. We all favor people that have no real worth. They only entertain society.
Sorry saving the world is too easy a subject to digress into.
So i've been reading Jonah Hex, the new series, thats creative team consists of Jimmy Palmiotti Justin Gray and Luke Ross. I have yet to read the first series so i can make an accurate comparison. But of the 7 issues i've read, i as a western fan enjoy it thoroughly. In my opinion it captures the spirit of the West in all of its gritty and dramatic glory. I also purchased the Deadlands rpg. For those unfamiliar its set in the Old West but thats about the only comparison it has with our history. Different campaigns allow for various styles of play. But the underlying fact is that the world is a dark and strange place. Safety is but a dream, and the struggle for survival is daily. Playing video games such as Gun, Call of Juarez and its sequel is also allowing me to experience the West is a small bit of its glory.
