So thought I’d update to let you gals know what happened with my little friend the IUD.
FUN ER STORY J
Last week, I was in so much pain I broke down and went into the ER. Once there, they assigned me a dumb ass Med Student who was supervised by a Real Dr. To protect the innocent, I shall call them Dumb (real dr.) and Dumber (Med student). Things didn’t start well because I basically had to explain Endometriosis to them b/c it seemed like the both had never encountered it. Great I’m going to pay thousands of dollars for me to educate the Doctors. I love it when it works that way. But wait it gets better.
Dumb decided he wanted a pelvic done and had Dumber do it. I think this was the first pelvic Dumber had ever done b/c I’ve never had a painful pelvic exam before but this was excruciating. First of all he couldn’t figure out how to put the speculum in and pushed it around in all sorts of stupid ways. I was about ready to grab it out of his freaking hands and put it in my darn self. Then when the exam was over and he went to take the speculum out, he tried to take it out before he closed it! Dumb quickly corrected him and then when Dumber closed it he somehow clamped and pinched the sides of my vagina in the speculum. I nearly jumped off the damn table. After having my insides bruised they did an ultrasound, (yay catheter and probe.) Finally, after spending the evening next to some guy hacking his lungs out, Dumb and Dumber came to report that they had no answers and sent me home with Vicodin. It’s really my fault I should have known better. I knew they wouldn’t be able to do much but I was in so much pain I was willing to try. I usually don’t even try to go in anymore when the Endo gets bad b/c ER docs have no clue.
FAREWELL IUD
After all the fun and joy I had in the ER I called my Gyno the next morning and she got me in on Friday. We talked about things and she felt around and suggested taking out the IUD and scheduling surgery. I agreed. Thus, after a month and a week, I said farewell to my IUD. She took my little friend out, and surgery was scheduled for this month on the 29th. She’s going to do another Laparoscopy. This time she is going to try to go in and be more aggressive in her removal of implants and scar tissue. Then after that it looks like I’m going to try using 2 other hormonal treatments to manage the Endo, and then if that doesn’t work its time for the dreaded Lupron and chemical menopause. Endo SUCKS!
As of Today I’m still in pain from the Removal and now stressed about Surgery. So my question of the day for all of you lovely ladies (you guys are my lifeline by the way) has to do with school/work after surgery. Do any of you have suggestions about how to make it through class in pain or have stories about how you made it to events/work/class after surgery? Last time I had this done, it was over Christmas break. So I had a good three weeks to recover w/o having to worry about schoolwork. This time I’m having it done at the beginning of spring break and will only have about 3 days to rest before I have to get back to studying. Any suggestions you have are greatly appreciated. You ladies rock!
