Well, I just finished watching the 1927 French silent film Le Joueur D'Échecs!
Wow. It is really long and apparently classifies for epic-length, but it is really good.
Set in 1776 in Poland/Russia the costumes and filmography are absolutely gorgeous. And the acting is really quite marvelous.
Especially by Pierre Blanchar who plays the Polish rebel leader, Boleslas.
I wish I could find a picture of him from the movie on the internets. (Maybe I'll learn how to make screencaps of a dvd some day?)
He's got the most incredible eyes. Very soft and emotional and just...wow. Swoon worthy :D
This picture is a little older than the film (in which he was 35, but he looked much younger because of his beautiful eyes).
