First Twilight [Video/Action in New Bark Town]

Dec 19, 2010 12:53

[The screen shows nothing but static for a few minutes before it finally changes to the image of a woman with her blond hair up in a fancy knot. She's sitting on an armchair in the New Bark Town pokemon center, but she's shivering and looks extremely irritated. You can't really blame her, though, considering the way she's dressed. Not exactly ( Read more... )

[Envy looks very amused by all this.] That's not a demon.

And welcome to being human yourself, it's a party.

[She pouts.] You're the fourth or fifth person to tell me that.

[Her pout changes to an amused smirk.] Oh, my. There are other non-humans here? [She cackles.] Interesting, very interesting. To see so many gathered in one world.

[Then the whole phrase 'being human hits her.' Her eyes widen.]

I-Impossible... unless, is that the reason why I feel as though something's missing?

Yeah, that'd be the reason all right. It's a hassle, but you'll get used to it. At least, you'd better hope you do, because whatever powers you had aren't coming back. [He laughs, and then his voice takes on a smooth, interested tone as he smirks.]

There are quite a few non humans here though, of all sorts. You called yourself a witch?

[An annoyed sigh escapes from her lips, but the man had just said there was nothing she could do about it.]

[However, her interest comes back when he speaks again.] Yes. I am what you would call an Endless Witch. Where I come from, that is a very high rank that witches can achieve.

Oh? That does sound very impressive. And you must be powerful, to control demons. [Envy smirks wider, although it would be very difficult to tell whether or not he means his flattery. But this woman is interesting, and that tends to be the best way to find out more.]

My name is Envy.

[She cackles.] Why, thank you. I rose to a rank higher than the one who taught me all I know.

Envy? My, if only Leviathan were here. She's a demon that represents the sin envy, you two probably would've gotten along fairly well... or not. Leviathan is a bit of a crybaby, after all.

Also, you said that were a non-human as well, correct?

Surpassing one's master does take great talent.

Ha, really? For all the people who've mistaken me for an embodiment of my name, it's interesting to know that there actually is one out there. If she ever arrives here I'll have to speak with her.

[Now he looks a bit smug.] That's right. In my world I'm what's called a homunculus, and I'm the oldest and strongest of all of us.

Yes, she and her other six sisters are all embodiments of the seven sins. They like to fool around, but they are still useful servants.

A homunculus? [That struck her.] That makes things even more interesting. [She smirks.] You know, I was actually turned into a homunculus once.

[He looks twice as interested when she mentions that, leaning a bit towards the screen and smirking even wider.] Now that seems like an interesting story. Did you die to become one? Or, more likely, homunculi are something different in your world.

Well, in my world homunculi are manufactured humans created by alchemy. I don't know if that's the same in your world, but it doesn't change the fact that I was once one myself.

It's a long story, but since you seem so interested, I'll go ahead and tell my tale.

In the beginning I had been a witch who lived for a thousand years, but when a human named Kinzo summoned me, we made a contract. Over time he fell in love with me and began to court me. I would always turn my head, but his feelings were so strong that he was able to trap me in a cage of flesh. Even though he was a wannabe magician, he still had that kind of terrifying power. [Her face becomes solemn.]

Kinzo built a mansion just for me and kept me hidden there from his wife and children. I was like a caged bird and I couldn't stand living in that human body until Kinzo's death, so I ended my time in that cage of flesh earlier. However, Kinzo managed to trap my soul, the part of me that was still a witch, and kept me bound to the living world.

He put my soul into the body of a baby he had made from a test tube, a homunculus... However, he continued to keep me in that mansion. Also, as my soul grew accustomed to the homunculus I lost my memories of the past as a witch and grew up as though I were a normal human girl. Even when I grew up, I was still being kept in that mansion. Then one day, one of Kinzo's young daughter's, Rosa, found my mansion and entered my garden.

Rosa and I chatted for a while, but then she told me that she could bring me outside the mansion. I had never left the mansion's property before, so of course I agreed to follow her out. As we walked by the cliffs I took a misstep and fell. The homunculus body that had held my sould died from the fall, but because of that my soul was freed and I regained all my memories.

I had returned to being the Golden Witch.

[Envy listens to the story without saying anything, his face unreadable. When she finishes he thinks it over for a minute; he really hadn't been expecting to get the entire story just like that, but he couldn't say it hadn't been a good one.] It seems that we are similar in a few ways after all, Lady Beatrice. Homunculi such as myself are also humans created by alchemy, although not from test tubes. We are created when an alchemist attempts human transmutation to resurrect the dead. In my world, alchemy is a science of equivalent trade, and there is nothing to equal a human life. So the source of alchemy, the Gate, gives them one of us instead. We hold the memories of the one we used to be, but we aren't them. And we have a great deal more power than any human, and special abilities as well. I could transform into any shape I liked.

Although in your story and my own, it seems that humans can be just as selfish, arrogant, and cruel in any world.
