"There is also an increasing number of unhappy women who, misled by false notions of liberation and empowerment, shunned the simple joys of family life that no women's organization can restore."

I'm not even a minor expert on Indian Law, so I can't attack or validate any of her statements or statistics about dowry laws or the Domestic Violence Act, but without doing the research, I'm very sure that this particular statement troubles me.

Also, if anyone hasn't heard (preferably) or at least read Ani Difranco's poem "Self Evident," do it. It's on "So Much Shouting, So Much Laughter" and also "Ani DiFranco Carnegie Hall 4.6.02" which I checked out from the local library...
