serious question: how did fandom operate before LJ newsletters?!?!?!
err, so this might be a slightly odd question, but I have been getting used to have so many great LJ newsletter nowadays like the ledger for SV, the bbc merlin news for well, Merlin :D, the trek newsletter and the ones for SPN, etc etc etc...
that I was asking myself, how did these things worked before we had them !??!?!
Like , were there similar things in the usenet, or yahoo groups and such, era?
like, in the web1.0 era :D
so there were the archives like SSA, then discussion groups like clarklex, and fic groups like clarklexfic. (I am just using them as examples, coz I have no real knowledge from other fandoms).
How would one get updates and news, if as a fan, you were not interested in all the chatter on the discussion groups, but just wanted the hmm, how to call them.. Hard facts, like updates on art , fics and conventions!??!
any fandom elders here, who could educate me?
or point me out, where to look??
