Musings of a New Start

I checked my BARC account on UCSB's website today (http://mybarc.ucsb.edu) to check out my refund check from the school. It took a while to digest the information, as the refund check turned out to be about 6400 USD. Apparently the school thought it would be nice to give me a second grant, after I drew out all the loans under my own name. It's so funny when the school screws up with your FAFSA, and forgets that you applied as an independent via override. Well, I'm gonna be putting that money into good use... first thing on my list, a Sekonic L-508 light meter. Not the latest model, but still a good amount of change, about 300 USD used.

Also, I'm trying to figure out what to do with the photography courses situation. I want to learn how to develop my own film and do all the darkroom work, which I'm sure I could actually learn by myself or thru friends at Brooks... the problem is where could I get a darkroom? The university has their own, but you have to be enrolled in the photography class. The teacher, Richard Ross, who is apparently teaching fashion photography next quarter, is a joke (http://www.richardross.net). I'm sorry, but I'm sure I'll be better in a few months or less... his portraits are a joke. It's rather funny how pathetic photography at UCSB is.

Anyways, along with the resolution from yesterday - that is to have a stronger approach to life in all aspects - another resolution of mine is to invest and save money. I'm trying to find a bank that allows me to invest my money thru a CD via foreign currency, either the Euro or the British Pound. At our current rate of the economy, the dollar will become weaker, and it could nullify the interest accured over the investment period. Yes, it is a risk to invest in another currency, but it's something I want to do.

Oh... final note, I have a pair of Stanton turntables and a mixer - untouched, out of box - that I want to sell. If anyone needs turntables or DJ equipment... let me know. I want to get rid of it to get more photography equipment.

goals, new years, photography
