Despite the fact that I am apparently incapable of sleep, and so am a bit stressed and tired these days, things are going pretty okay (if, perhaps, not entirely productively).
Most importantly, I seem to have an incredible set of people around me. If there's one thing I know, it's to always make sure the people you hang out with are cooler than you, and damn, I managed that in spades.
- I mean, of course there's you lot reading this, who are perpetually awesome and the cause of much hand-cramping whilst trying to frost dozens of gingerbread men but I do it out of love, I promise (and it's actually fun, because zomg, I do so love baking)
- When Liz's folks were in town before Chief was born, we sat around and watched "Wipeout" (which is objectively awesome, don't judge). So tonight, since I know Liz is sitting around attached to Chief (literally, aka breast-feeding), I texted her to say Hey, Wipeout is on. Her reply? Yeah, I just turned it on, haha. We proceeded to text ridiculous bullshit about the show to each other. It was almost like hanging out in person. And it made me smile.
- And then there's Allie, whose parents came down through here from MN to visit and go to Georgia or something. Except they came before break, and brought a case of Spotted Cow. She, knowing my origins, boasted a little bit, then promised to save one. I was honestly hoping she'd drink it, because Spotted Cow is delicious, but true to her word, she came to class Tuesday evening and handed me a bottle of beer. So I got both the experience of "smuggling" booze through Wilson Library, and having a seriously frakking delicious beer on St. Patty's day. Yay friends!
- And then there's always the kind-hearted-but-creepy-seeming emails, like the one this afternoon. A friend emailed around 1300, out of the blue - turns out, she'd been stalking the SILS Bracketology group, and was concerned that I'd not entered, but relieved when I finally got mine in (five minutes before the early tip today, oops). I choose to think of this as kind-hearted concern, not ZOMG CREEPERS ON SOCIAL MEDIA GROSS.
Tonight, I have decided to sleep in my bed, instead of on my couch. If this fucked-up sleep schedule persists, I am going to give up all caffeine and explicit processed sugar (because seriously, there's sugar in everything, I may as well just not eat if I were to give up all sugar) and see what happens. I am concerned because I sleep worse without caffeine, but we'll see. It'll be an interesting time, this is to be sure.
And yeah. Speaking of basketball, I picked against Wisconsin in every bracket I did, so what happened? Of course they won their opening game by double digits. Fuckers. I mean, YAY BUCKY. But, really? Those miserable fuckers. I'm reminded of an old comic from the Badger Herald (regarding the 2005 Alamo Bowl and Brooks Bollinger's propensity to defy betting expectations when it came to winning or losing games), but upon investigation, their website is gone! Sadness! I'm off to mourn, folks.
Happy St. Patty's to all!
