yumminess to be had

I really hate stores putting up holiday stuff months before the holiday occurs - today at the local Kroger (grocery store, for the uninitiated), the workers were frantically taking down the Halloween stuff to replace it with Christmas goods. Halloween hasn't even happened yet! And they want me to look at Christmas stuff already?! BOO.

Except.

I got to the milk section and glanced in the case, and then I saw it.

EGG NOG.

Some people go into rapture in the presence of Jesus. Me, I practically had a rapture fit at the sight of egg nog - and again when I got home and cracked that carton open. I love egg nog so so much. Stupid consumerism, fostering my addictions. But it is so tasty - and that's actually one of my goals for this year: to make my own egg nog. I was going to last year* but wound up not, for whatever reason. But this year, man, this is the year.

Also, I'm making baklava tomorrow, after about two years of threatening to do so. Wish me luck - and yes, before you ask, I will post pictures. :)

(Oh, another also - I'm considering sending out Christmas cookies when the appropriate time finally comes. Is there interest in this?)

* I'm not sure if I mentioned this last year or not, and when I went back to look, I found this entry, which prompted me to look up Greg Ellis and discover that his character in Pirates of the Caribbean (the one who says "That's got to be the best pirate I've ever seen") has a full name - Lieutenant Theodore Groves. Yay!

food, rl, holidays come too early
