I thought that blocking off the whole of May for editorial shoots will free up my time. Did I ever think wrong. I'm about as busy as April, but earning just a fraction of what I did. What else to expect, it is my editorial month.
Anyway, I just got back from a three day trip to Caliraya Friday for Magazine A. I haven't been to the lake since I was a wee girl so I can't say I remember much. It wasn't a tiring shoot, we were mostly relaxed. Finished 15 layouts in a day and a half and went night "swimming"--well, it can't really be considered swimming if all the group did was sit on one side of the pool and chat. We did try to soak up as much of the cold as we can to insulate us when we got back to the killer Manila heat.
Funny thing though, when projects come in, they come in all in a one time deal. Like the Caliraya trip was For Wednesday to Friday of this past week. Monday and Tuesday beforehand, shoots were trying to book me for styling. Thursday was supposedly for a cover shoot for Magazine B, and Friday a fashion editorial for Magazine C. I couldn't book both as I was gonna be in Caliraya.
Wednesday, Magazine B was booking me again for Friday afternoon, they moved the cover pictorial. I had to say yes because they were the ones bugging me for Thursday. Looking at the sked, I'd make it back to Manila in time for an afternoon shoot Friday. I've never booked myself that way, a shoot right after coming back from an out of town trip.
Wednesday, a prestigious yearly book project tried booking me for a Saturday food shoot. I had to beg off because I wouldn't have time to prepare, and the layout they wanted was hard on paper (someone eating books? Nger). They had a really low budget but I would have been willing if I'd had time enough to prepare for it. Anyway, I told the contact person that I'm ok for the next project. Its a prestige thing so I really don't care what the budget is. I'm wondering who passed my name to them though...
Anyway, for this week, I'm fully booked. I have my mommy magazine to take care of, including the coming quarter's cover plus count 'em, two tv bookings on one day. Again, that's another first. I've had two tv bookings in a week, but never in a day. Someone give me a show already kasi! Harhar. Yeah, I know, I think for that to happen, I would need to lose maybe half my body weight (because women on tv have to look anorexic) and get a strong backer. I'm too much a nobody. Oh, and get lessons on diction and stuff as I sometimes get tongue-tied. *giggle*
Ok, I need a bit of help for one of the tv thingies. I have to talk about what's in now with the teenage population. I'm out of the loop, someone clue me in please. If it's runway we're talking about, I can research on it but the actual things teens are wearing? Hmm. I have to ask them which income level we're talking about. Maybe I should just push ukay. That's the easiest thing. Hehe.
Pero serious, someone clue me in.
What else? My brother bought me a bluetooth thingie for the computer, so I can finally start downloading my phone pics. It's official: something is wrong with our PC. The bluetooth works fine at his office pc but it doesn't on our home pc. I'm thinking it's the same with my Nokia PC Suite--it's the PC that has the problem. It seems meant that I never get to download my phone pics on my computer. Grr. I haven't downloaded anything since March 16! The memory card is straining. There hasn't even been time to run over to Fuji--or to GB kay Aids-- to have the darn photos downloaded. Someone help please as I'm the most non-techie person I know.
On other news, I am currently loving the book "the Rule of Four." Finally, a book I can really recommmend. If you're like me, someone who can't understand why people list down "The Da Vinci Code" as a favorite book because you personally find it babaw, and yet can't get into Umberto Eco because it's too lalim, then the Rule of Four is perfect. There's just enough about the Rennaissance to whet your curiosity, but is not too bogged down in details that your brian shuts off from overload. It isn't perfect, like a book can ever be perfect, there are slow parts and parts where it's a bit confusing if you're reading about the past or present of the protagonists' lives. It is the first book I've really finished straight through in a long, long time though. As I said, the stack of books and magazines I've yet to read, or finish reading, reaches past my hips already. For me to find a book that was good enough to read straight through is saying something.
Oh, the magazine booking me for a fashion editorial last Friday re-booked me for this coming Friday. It seems everyone I couldn't accomodate last week was willing to wait for me to get back to book me again. Cool. Now the only thing that's left is to book myself some money making gigs again as my month of editorials is drawing to a close.
I also have to find a photographer I can "train". I've blacklisted the old standard I call on whenever I need good products shots. Unfortunately, some clients are sanay na with the tandem and are bucking against the new photogs. Hello? Mahirap palitan ang training ng two years noh. I have to start training the new ones on the work flow, the type of lighting and cropping needed etc, etc from scratch. Add that to all my other responsibilities.
Everything's going well though, I've only one more shoot to go for the mommy magazine and then we'll gear up for the next issue: 100 pages na instead of the usual 64. Whooo-wheee! Now I have to convince the editor in chief not to resign...
Oh, and I have to add: I'm using the Coach wallet for the first time today. Yey. wala lang, I haven't felt like changing wallets 'til today so it spent the past couple of months wrapped up in one of my cabinets. I think today's the right day to unveil it though. So I'll be using a purple wallet from now on. Hehe.
I have to go prepare now. I've to do my own makeup most probably for this show and I have to be at the location by 1pm. It's 11am already and I have to go to the bank pa to deposit some checks before running over to the location. I'm cutting it fine yet again...
EDIT:
Ok, I forgot to mention that I've gotten sick because of the weather. I've been running around too much because of the shoots and the weather has gotten to me. It's too damn hot! Init-lamig from the outside temperatures to suddenly entering an airconditioned room has given me the sniffles and a slight cough. Add the fact that the a/c in my room is giving me problems. Remember the effect I have on electrical gadgets every time I'm emotionally upset? well, April was upsetting, now the a/c is paying the price. And I'm getting sick because of it. Imagine sleeping with the a/c on full blast and it doesn't make the room's temperature glacial (the way I like it). I have to turn on my fan full-blast just so the air circulates a bit more. I'm switching a/c's with the guest room on the third floor, if I can coerce the people here to move 'em as they're quite heavy.
Oh, and the weirdest thing happened yesterday. I was waiting for the crew to arrive for the taping so I decided to pass the time in this book store. While I was seated in one of the reading areas, my phone rang. FHM is booking me for next week. More on this later, as this isn't the weirdest thing. Anyway, the girl called my old number, so I gave her my main one. Unbeknowst to me, the guy seated beside me took it down. Now he's texting me. Grrr. Eh I don't pay attention so malay ko sino sya noh.
Ok, back to FHM. I'm kinda floored they booked me again. I haven't done work for them since Eric got booted off from the EIC position. Ba't bigla nila ako natandaan? I like Eric better kasi as EIC, and I had the feeling I wasn't in the good graces of the current one. I'm just weirded out why they suddenly booked me again. Let's see what happens Tuesday, during the shoot. Kakareerin ko ito.
So now, in the span of a week and a half, I'm doing shoots for the three sexy mags in business. I haven't really done sexy pictorials since the year started because I'm trying to lower my profile there, what with the mommy magazine and all. The only sexy mag I like doing, even though they haven't paid me yet for the past three projects I did with them, is UNO. Pag UNO girls boring because they always want very plain bikinis in black or white with minimum accessories. Fashion editorials are okay though because there's a wee bit more room to play around. I didn't like the last one I did nga lang kasi hindi ako yung namili ng clothes.
Anyway, Eric is heading a new sexy magazine, called PUMP (wahaha!) and I'm gonna try to finagle my way in. Sanay na naman ako to work with him eh, let's see how he makes it different from FHM. As long as I memorize the style of all the sexy magazines I work for, then it's all good.
