"Ah, here we are!" Dumbledore crowed as he dragged Snape into a painted landscape in the Great Hall. "I'll wave to Minerva when I see her," he added. "Now, I know you'd rather not be here, but do try to be diplomatic, Severus."

Snape mustered a sneer, but he remained silent. It was all he could do not to cover his ears to drown out what passed for music these days.

"I could use a good pair of binoculars," Dumbledore said.

"Pardon me?" Snape snapped.

"Binoculars," repeated Dumbledore. "A clever Muggle invention that allows one to see things that are quite distant from oneself."

"I know what binoculars are. However, we have spells for that, or have you forgotten...Headmaster?" drawled Snape.

"Where is your sense of adventure, Severus?" tutted Dumbledore.

"I allowed you to drag me here, did I not?"

Dumbledore chuckled. "You do have a point," he said. "Ah, here comes Miss Lovegood. I'll just have her fetch Minerva, shall I? Yoo-hoo! Miss Lovegood!" Dumbledore called out.

Luna looked around, searching for the voice she'd heard. When she looked their way, Dumbledore waved madly from the painting. Luna beamed and came skipping up to him.

"Headmaster, Professor," she greeted. "I am honored that you've chosen to attend our party."

Snape snorted, but Dumbledore pressed on. "It's a delightful gathering, Miss Lovegood," he said. "My compliments on your organizational skill."

Luna beamed at the praise.

"Would you be so kind as to send Headmistress McGonagall over here?" asked Dumbledore.

"Of course, sir," Luna replied with a nod. "I'll send her as soon as I can find her." She dashed off once more, intent on her errand.

Dumbledore turned to Snape and smiled. "We need more students like Miss Lovegood," he said.

"Flighty and too full of fanciful...notions?"

"Now, Severus," chided Dumbledore, "she may have her head in the clouds, but she has a good heart and a kind word for everyone. The rest of us would do well to emulate her."

Snape merely stuck his nose in the air and sniffed.

Before Dumbledore could reprimand him again, he was distracted. "Ah, here comes Minerva now!"

Headmistress McGonagall came bustling up. "Hello, Albus," she greeted before turning to Snape. "Severus, how nice of you to come to our party. Do enjoy yourselves, gentlemen."
