Summary: An owl interrupts an idyll.
Harry relaxed back against the pillows, idly sifting his fingers through Draco's hair. Amber lay at their feet, softly purring, and if Harry closed his eyes he could imagine it was his husband making the pleased sound. Harry heaved a contented sigh. He never wanted to leave this bed.
Their bedroom had been decorated for the season with a small Christmas tree in one corner. Boughs of evergreen and holly adorned the headboard of the bed as well as each window. Bows and baubles had been affixed to the greenery, and white lights twinkled in among the other decorations.
"Do we have to get up today?" Draco mumbled, echoing Harry's thoughts. "It's cold outside."
Indeed, it was. Harry could see frost on the windows, and he could hear the sound of a chill breeze sighing in the trees outside. Staying in bed seemed a capital idea. No sooner had he thought it, though, than there came a frantic pecking at one of the panes.
"There's an owl at the window," Harry said with a frown.
"Well, let the bloody thing in."
Harry grabbed his wand from the bedside table and flicked it at the window, opening it to admit the owl and a gusty draft of cold air. The owl circled the room once before landing on the bed and casting a wary eye at Amber. Harry removed the small package from the owl's leg, and it flew across the room to perch on the back of a chair.
"What is it?" Draco asked, propping himself up on one elbow.
"It's a Christmas cracker," said Harry. "Pansy sent it." He shrugged and offered one end to Draco. They tugged, and the cracker broke open with a pop, expelling a small, rolled parchment.
Draco picked it up and opened it. He groaned and flopped back against the pillows.
"Dare I ask?" Harry chuckled.
"I asked Pansy to give me a couple gift ideas for her and Blaise," said Draco. "The silly bint sent an entire wishlist!"
