I'm curious. I can deal with a fair amount of angst in a story, after all life is a series of the good the bad and the not so pretty.
However chapter after chapter of unrelenting, agonizing angst? Not so much - especially if it seems that the story is presenting the reader with angst for angst sake. My poor heart just can't take it. For example when you reach 50+ chapters with no end in sight, that's when I call it quits. The real pisser? I'm already reeled in and it's a case of prurient, morbid curiosity. Seems I'm a masochist.
Now mind you, if I'm sticking around for 50 or so chapters it's because the writer has captivated my attention, ergo they are most assuredly a good writer.
So my question or rather my sense of curiosity is centered on the pleasure a reader would derive from such stories.
