Summary: Harry gets dragged out of bed before sunrise.

Harry wasn't in the best of moods. Not only had he failed to cajole Malfoy into a shag earlier that night, but he'd been dragged from his lonely bed by a summons from the DMLE. The sun had yet to make an appearance over the horizon, but here Harry was, in the wreckage of a jewelry store. He sighed and got out a Quick Quotes Quill and a note pad.

"What time do you normally arrive at your shop, Mr Kazarian?"

"Seven in the morning," replied the shop owner, wringing his hands as he looked about himself in despair. It was obvious that he was all shook up at the destruction of his place of business. "I open at eight."

"And why did you arrive early this morning?" asked Harry. Technically speaking, it was morning.

"I felt it when someone breached the wards."

"And this is how the shop appeared when you arrived?"

"Yes, sir."

Harry looked about himself and tried not to cringe as he asked, "Is anything missing, do you know?" Several display cases had been smashed, but jewelry still twinkled from inside, along with shards of glass.

"A two karat diamond engagement ring that was here to be resized." Mr Kazarian said this with such alacrity and certainty that Harry's brows shot up.

"Any idea why someone would target that ring in particular?" he inquired.

Mr Kazarian's lips thinned. "The young lady had a beau, whom she broke it off with," he said. "I had the impression he was not best pleased when she moved on to someone else."

Harry focus shifted from investigation to predation. "Men with broken hearts are seldom pleased. Do you know where I might find this young man?"

Everything had been wrapped up by eight. Harry and Dean had gone to confront young Mr Bicklehop at his home. Not only did he admit to stealing his ex-girlfriend's ring, he'd seemed proud of himself...up until the time Dean slapped the magical cuffs on him and Harry began talking about restitution and possible sentencing.

Harry had been glad to pass Bicklehop off to the guards in the Ministry's holding cells. Reckoning he deserved a reward, not to mention some life-giving caffeine, Harry paid a visit to Dragon Brew. He convinced Malfoy to come out and sit with him while he regaled Malfoy with the entire, sordid tale.

"I can understand the hurt feelings," said Malfoy, "but to stoop to such a level is unconscionable."

"Seems to me the young lady dodged a Bludger by breaking up with him," Harry agreed. He took a sip of his Long Black and had a bite of treacle tart. "How is your new employee working out?"

A pained look crossed Malfoy's face. "If he doesn't catch on soon, he'll have to go," he replied. "Baking seems to elude him."

"Lynsey is a talented baker, isn't she?"

"Yes, but I need her to help at the counter," said Malfoy.

"Have you tried your new employee at the counter?" asked Harry. "What is his name, by the way?"

"Iggy," said Malfoy. "Ignatius. I never considered putting him out front." He drummed his fingers on the table, lost in thought.

"Perhaps he would fare better at making drinks and waiting on customers," suggested Harry. "Rather than train a new baker, you could give Lynsey more responsibility in the kitchen and see if Iggy takes to being a barista."

"Hm. Auror Potter may be on to something, but don't tell him I said so. I wouldn't want to inflate his ego any further."

"Oy!" cried Harry before chuckling at the taunt. "I need to get back to the Ministry," he said. "Kiss me quick."
