With the holidays and the start of the new year, the differences between life now and a year ago have become impossible to ignore. Against a background of comforting annual traditions, the differences due to changed circumstances really stand out. This past year was one of many major changes for me, and this was really highlighted during the holidays.
That being said, I find myself embracing the changes. Leaving home means making a new one for myself. Loss of comforts brings gains in independence. Friends lost are overcome by friends kept, and friends gained.
Being home for the holidays felt like a step backward, but I realized you can never go all the way back. I feel confident in my decisions and am glad for the changes I've had.
