I think a general theme around here lately has been stress and distress, and I'm on about the same page. Since Thanksgiving weekend, I think something a lot like homesickness has been getting to me. It might be more that I'm missing the stability, and security of 12 months ago. So, I've decided to write about things I am happy and/or excited about.

1. I had a great weekend. Our lab had our annual fall retreat, and we crashed one of the guys houses somewhere in one of the Eastern townships. We cooked dinner together, and played Grand Dalmuti and drank til about 4. We were up at 8 for breakfast, and drove to a mountain and climbed it. Definitely about as rigorous as hangover cures get. But totally worth - check out the view from the top:

2. I'm going to see my sister skate in Rouen, France next February. I've never been able to go along to any of her international competitions because they've always interfered with midterms, but no more midterms for me! I spoke with my supervisor last week and he's totally cool with me going. Plus my aunt works for Air France so I'm flying almost for free. We'll have a day of sight-seeing after taking the train to Rouen from France, then 2 days of competition. PLUS my grandparents will be coming too and I haven't seen them in over a year. So excited.

3. I dyed my hair all by myself and it was far from an epic fail. It had been a while since I had it coloured and the ends were kind of orange-y, but I managed to totally match my natural colour and now the ends look way better. So yay.

4. I loved this google thing. I left out the instructions because I think enough people have posted them.

Emily needs eating companions around noon on Wednesday.
Emily looks like loon dung.
Emily does the Salmon Dance.
Emily hates you.
Emily goes wild and Madame DuBois takes her to the Zoo so she can be with other monkeys.
Emily loves to bounce.
Emily eats an apple for some reason.
Emily has been writing for weeks and submitting her work to publishers.
My readings of Emily's works and of works about Emily, have given me an in depth understanding of the city of Victoria during the late nineteenth century.
Emily lives with two dead bodies, her father's and her lover's
Emily Died (1998): find the latest news, photos and trailers, as well as local showtimes and dvd info at Yahoo! Movies.
Emily will require regular tuning of her cochlear implant

5. I went to a great seminar today. It was a busy day so it was tough to squeeze in, but so worth it. She presented some really exciting, groundbreaking stuff. I won't bore you all with it :)

So there! If you're down too, think about the good things. Totally helps.
