Just got in from work. Wasnt too busy either. I have been able to sleep all through the night since I started at ERS. Im liking this. I only had three calls too, so it wasnt too bad.
Ok, now I promised myself I would only use my journal for work stuff, and to keep a record of calls and experiences, BUT I have to gush bout something else for a few minutes. I went on a date friday night. The first date in a LONG time. It was with Steve, 18 yo, from burton. He is very good looking, very smart, sweet, and sexy. I made plans to go pick him up at 1900hrs, and go to dinner. I was SO NERVOUS it wasnt even funny. So I get there to pick him up, and he comes outta his house, and I just about fell over. He was tall, and looked so cute, and he smelled so good. So we drove into flint while deciding where to go to eat. So we settled on Damons, and off we went. We got there, and there was a 30 minute wait, so we sat and talked. I told him he looked cute. He seemed really shy, which is understandable. I was trying my hardest not to be shy too. So we get dinner, and talked throughout dinner. He seemed to be coming out of his shell by the end of dinner, which is a good thing. He is a really nice guy. So we leave, and we were going to go see a movie, but the only thing that was playing isnt a movie i wanted to really see anyways. So we went to Tim Hortons, and got coffee (well I got tea) and we sat and talked. About all kinds of stuff. I told him about Ben. I was scared too, cuz most guys dont want to even deal with that... it usually scares them off. But I didnt feel it would be fair to hide that from him. I was surprised.. he didnt seem too freaked out by it. I explained to him the entire situation. I hope he doesnt get too scared by that. So then he gave me a nice tour of flint, good and bad. It was interesting. I liked listening to him talk. :-) He is a really sweet guy. I definately wanted another date with him, and I told him so. So hopefully it will happen :-) I wanted to hold his hand while we were driving around, but I dont want to push anything. He hasnt had a boyfriend ever, and I dont want to rush things. So I didnt go for his hand. I dropped him off at his house, and then the awkwardness started. Im not good with ending a date. I never know how to proceede. I wanted to kiss him, but I thought that may have been too much for a first date. So we hugged. I dropped him off, and went home and went to bed on cloud nine :-)
So yea the next day i wake up, and roll over, and look at my clock, and realize there is something wrong. My clock is saying its 645. Im thinking, that isnt right, I am supposed to be just getting to work. YUP. I overslept... cuz I never set my alarm. Nice one. So i call my boss, and hop in the shower, and hauled ass to flint, 90+ mph. I got to work, and all was cool. I worked with Josh, an EMT who works over at Genesys full time. He is a smart guy who knows his shit pretty well. I'd like to work with him more often. So yeah, we only had three calls. The first was for a bullshit chest pain.. this lady had a case of the yesses. Everything you asked her was answered with a yes. I had a feeling that she was a frequent flyer. I was assessing her, and she tells me she hasnt shit in a month and a half. That confirmed it right there, its a bullshit call. So I load her up in the truck, and attempt an IV. Twice. Nothing, just some more bruises for her. So we are on our way to the ER, and she starts saying she has to shit, but cant hold it. So I tell her to do what she has to do, so she shits her pants. Great. So I called the ER,and told the nurses what was up. "Patient reports she has been unable to have a bowel movement in a month and a half, however, she is in the process of having one as we speak" I had the nurses laughing so hard she almost couldnt answer me. So we drop her off and find out she has been there 32 times in the past two years. Ahh, that explains alot.
Call number two was also quite interesting. We get called for an allergic reaction. We get to the call, and this old lady answered the door, letting us into her trailer. The entire interior of her trailer is COATED in duct tape. And we are talking LAYERS of it. Her sofa was covered in it, and taped to the floor.. it coated her ceiling, the walls. Every inch of the inside was covered. Well, first time for everything. So Im listening to her say she is outta valium and needs more, so she wants to go to the ER. This lady is PERFECTLY healthy physically (mentally is another story altogether) and DOES NOT need an ER, but there is no telling her that. She is already on something as it is. The trailer is dark as hell, yet her pupils are so pinpoint you almost cant see them. So i turf this one off to my EMT, and drive us to the ER, thinkin of my date the night before. We get to the ER and stick the patient in the ER triage waiting room, where she would have gone had she brought herself in.
Call number three was much later in the evening. We wouldnt have gotten it if I hadnt taken my boots off. I swear.. we dont get a call, until I take my boots off. We get called to an address for a 5 yo who swallowed a quarter, and is now having a hard time breathing. Wonderful. I am bad with kid calls.. especially when they have someething really wrong with them. SO we started driving in the general direction of the call, and I call our dispatch on the cell to get better directions. I find out we are heading in the wrong direction, and the call-taker on the call entered the address wrong. Our call is now a 30 minute drive normal traffic in the OPPOSITE direction. So we flip around, and I find the location, and navigate us there. Our dispatch is asking an an updated ETA, and as I do, I find out we have no County medic on this call, and the child is having increased DIB. Great. So I am getting ready mentally to have a half dead kid in my truck for the ride to the er. Im not looking forward to this. So we get there, and we go into the house, and the kid and mom are sitting in an armchair, both crying just as hard as the other. THANK GOD! Crying means the kid isnt having a hard time breathing, and is doing just fine. I calm mom down, and take the kid out to the ambulance, and get the kid and mom all strapped in. Turns out the little girl was playing with some change, and swallowed a quarter. She says she can feel it in her throat. All's I am thinking is THANK GOD she isnt choking. I take the call just in case, and we head out to genesys again. We drop her off without incident, and I cant help but feel relieved. :-) No dying kids tonight for me. She was such a cute little kid too.. and damn brave. So we headed back to the station, and slept all night. Thank god. Im liking this uninterrupted sleep. According to coworkers, it doesnt happen too often either. So Im just gonna enjoy it while i can. Well.. thats all for now.. till i work tues !
