yeah.. yesterday was my third shift. Getting into this paramedic thing ok. Im finding that I dont have to be as scared as I have been. Im getting my IV's, getting stuff done that needs to get done, all before reaching the ER's, and Im not killing anyone! Only had a couple of calls yesterday. The first one was a BLS transport for some old guy who took too many painkillers and muscle relaxants, and falls down alot cuz of it. The second was ok, made me feel good. We got called for a 28 yo difficulty breathing. We get there and it looked like total Bullshit when I pulled up, but actually turned out to be a good call. This chick was diagnosed as having bronchitis the day before, and was given a breathing treatment, an inhaler and some antibiotics in the urgent care. Weeeeelllll.. then she comes home.. and decided to keep right on smoking like the good little chimney she is, and then wonders why she cant breathe. So we get her in the truck, and we started heading for the ER. I gave her three breathing treatments, and she was STILL having some trouble breathing. But I was proud of myself. I got my line enroute, got her on the monitor, and got all my vitals done before calling in my radio report, and turning over care. She thanked me profusely, and even my partner complimented me on a job well done. We only had two more calls. One was a chest pain at a doctors office in a small town 20 min away from davison, and I made it there in 11 minutes. Gotta love lights and sirens :-) The County medic beat us there, so he took the patient and I drove his unit in. That was fun. Id like to become a county medic eventually. The last call was at like 2100 for an assault. It was a refusal, a 21 yo guy got a scrape on his back and thought he has tetanus, so I went out there, and reassured him he'd be in A LOT more pain if he did.. and could just see his family doctor tomorrow. So that was my average day, no excitement. I work again tomorrow, and we will see whats in store then :-) Ill then!
