and then i remembered how cool matt wasnaylevertMarch 25 2005, 10:07:09 UTC
damn dude, that was tight, you should let go more often. to be honest, i thought you were turning into a puss for a while there but then i read this. we should definitly chill when i get back and drive around and just "shoot the breeze" metaphorically. i'm interested to see what your take on martial arts is because it sounds like you've learned alot since we last trained. i don't want to get into that here though because we've all seen what happens when we talk about martial arts through lj
( ... )
a new trend is starting in america with 'gothic' and 'punk' kids, the trend to 'be fucked up' and 'hate others'
it's unbelievable how many LJ's i've stumbled upon who completely support this. not to mention a site called vampirefreaks.com.... it's insane. they all have the same look, the same attitude, and it's really sad. it's like a competition to see who's life is more screwed up and who is more depressed than the next kid. and i do say kid, as most of these people are between the ages of 12(!!!) and 17. i cant believe how young it starts, especially with the whole sex thing. ran across a journal that could have been fake, i'm not sure, but still, when it's supposedly an 8th grader who's planning out her high school years and starts by doing the most popular senior so she'll be popular to, there's something seriously wrong here. what's making kids think this way? it kills me.
What's up with that new trend of let's be fucked up and oh i cut myself and starve myself and wear black because I'm soooo goth I love hot topic I'm in with the cool crowd? Why is it now cool to be depressed? And why are people so stupid? I'm at VCU looking around, and it's insane. Stupid people. Stupid America.
I dont know, i've met people who are really depressed, and you know, its not something you throw around casually in conversation b/c you want attention, its something that truly fucking sucks
its hard to watch a depressed friend struggle to stay afloat daily, its hard to watch close friends rely on perscribed medication to exist in a 'normal' way
its very painful for me as a friend to watch that shit, because naturally as a friend i want the best for the ones i love
so i guess thats why the modern goth 'ITS LEET TO BE DEPRESSED!" shit bothers me, because i see my friends struggle to survive with it and bury it in their darkest corners, while fucking trendy mall goths with jncos that make them look like they are wearing hakamas laugh about it the foodcourt...
You going to church is almost as funny as when I looked back and remembered that I was a conservative: funny shit man, funny shit. But yeah man, I feel you on all this. God knows in middle school I didn't have no friends either, what with my parents putting me in Harry Potter Glasses and such. But has any of this ever changed? People always look for easy ways to be, whether its using drugs or being "punks" or being fuckin' Puritans, as long as someone tells you how to be. It is good to see you vent a little bit, if that comes out of a LJ entry if you let that shift fester god knows what might come out!

so true man, i think bruce lee once said that men tend to believe other men over themselves, which really is true i think
I think it could fall on the shoulders of how we are taught to learn, but observing the others in our group, reading what others have put forth, and answering what is 'right' and accepted
its almost like if youve got leadership now, you hold some seriously insane cult of personality ability
Then all my friends did drugs, while i did martial arts and track, the end.
You, too? Replace "martial arts and track" with "chorus and drama" and it's the same story.
Anyway, I think the problems go back to parenting. Seriously, I don't know a single person who went through puberty and never got despressed. Your parents are supposed to make sure you don't do anything stupid when you're growing up because when you're a kid, you're too stupid to know what's good for you. When your body starts doing things it didn't used to do, it's pretty safe to assume that person's train of thought won't be as stable as it once was. In other words, parents can't blame something or someone else because their kid failed the test of life.
yea youre really right, your parents try to protect you from a really dangerous age
youre too stupid to understand your actions and their effects because youre young and curious and sheltered
youre right, ultimately we all must face our destiny *black hawk down 'leave no man behind starts to play' ultimately, we must face our greatest truth, to stand infront of who we shall be and see if we have the courage to ask for more! its just when people try SO HARD to BE it, instead of be themselves and let their outward appearances/tastes in music BECOME them, shit hits the fan
it really makes me sad, because in all honesty, gothic lifestyle originated (i think) as haven for people that don't like the norm
*shrugs*
