Pet Food Recall
Many of you have beloved pets and I know that some haven't heard about the nationwide pet food recall that started in early March of this year concerning tainted Wheat Gluten found in both cat and dog dry food, and possible human food as well.
A toxin called Melamine was found in pet food and has been reported to have killed 2,000 dogs and cats and unofficial reports have speculated that number as high as 8,000. Although reports haven't been clear, they think Melamine is the main source of the poison, but could also be linked to Rat Poison or some unknown source.
The suspected Wheat Gluten that is poisoned has been coming from a plant in China that supplies to Menu Foods which manufactures many different brands of pet food that are included in this list below (but are NOT limited to it...meaning more brands may be found).
The major pet food manufacturing plants that are producing tainted food (that may not be tested yet) are :

Purina Pet Foods
Del Monte Pet Foods
This poison attacks your pet's kidney. If you suspect that you animal may be poisoned, signs to watch out for are:
-lack of appetite, or not wanting to eat at all.
-fatique, drinking lots of water or no water
-VOMITING
Take your animals to your Veterinarian IMMEDIATELY, save a sample of your pet's food and contact AZ's local FDA office.
It has been speculated by CNN and other news sources that the Wheat Gluten that has been tainted is also Human Food Grade (not only used in pet food but also distributed for human use). The FDA hasn't come out and said human food may be poisoned but many people are now starting to believe that it can be, and are waiting for an announcement of recalled human food.
If you have foods in your house containing Wheat Gluten call the number on the back of the package and ask the company WHERE they get their Wheat Gluten from. If it is from China STOP eating it--if they are being shady about telling you where it comes from STOP eating it. Only US Wheat Gluten is safe, or better yet if they manufacture it themselves instead of outsourcing.
My family has personally started feeding our animals Evanger's Pet Food (evangers.com). We called them up and asked them about their food and they assured us that they DO NOT outsource and have their OWN plant and use only US, Human Grade ingrediants and their products DO NOT CONTAIN Wheat Gluten so if you are unsure about your pet's food you can try switching to them.
